What I most enjoy about the work I do with sentient entities is the way that it is possible to get both immediate feedback, and then sometimes you will get a sign or a little gift later on when the whole episode has been integrated into your being. Such was my double dip reward at The Bridestones this Imbolc. Firstly I had the absolute pleasure of spending it with some good friends – the best I have – and secondly I got a visual reward when I found that Brigid herself had made an appearance on camera.
Signs for Britain’s Sickest Village?
As this was the final site visit of Imbolc we happened to arrive very close to sunset, with just enough time to prepare for the setting sun. Very little of our visits are planned in terms of timing, and this was another occasion when we just happened to have arrived when we needed to. Something was certainly involved in guiding us that day as a whole. We had encountered “signs” related to being stuck, and having barriers in our way as we travelled around the Derbyshire countryside. For example, Mike had mentioned that one particular village – Swythamley – had some terrible energies, and that we should go an experience this for ourselves. Kal was not keen on this at all, but I dutifully followed navigational directions in order to drive through the place out of curiosity. As we got closer to the village we encountered a huge lorry stuck in the middle of the road on a bend. We narrowly missed being squashed as it squeezed past the car. Then there were two near misses with other lorries that also caused us to have to either brake severely and swerve, or stop completely to allow the lorry to pass. Not particularly unusual in Derbyshire, but it was the coincidence of these events happening as we approached Swythamley that made Kal in particular take notice of the signs, and begin to express his dread fear that we might not get out of the village alive!
I noticed the energetic field around the village as we approached the outskirts of the first buildings indicating the village boundary. The place began to feel increasingly dreadful. Awful, horrific energies pushed my sacral chakra point relentlessly making me feel more and more nauseous. I nearly vomited as we reached the centre where people had parked their cars to go walking in the nearby hills. “Why would they park here!” I opined, disbelieving that we were the only ones that could feel this awful throbbing darkness. As we left the village, to the relief of everyone, particularly me, I noticed that the village lay at the end of two long straight rods that were channelling energies into the basin of Swythamley village itself. A warning: if you’re energetically aware, please don’t ever go there! Not even out of curiosity. For the next five minutes I spent my time energetically cleansing myself with silver and gold light visualisations.
As we arrived at The Bridestones a lorry tried to turn into the tiny lane leading to the quarry next tot he site. We sat for five minutes in the road watching in disbelief as the strange stuck lorry syndrome was repeated. Please, I begged, don’t let this be another sign that the energies are terrible. Not after all the work that Mike and I had done to try to repair the energetic framework of the site. We entered the site after the lorry abandoned its fruitless task and as we walked through the gate and the yew bower everyone agreed that the site felt much much better than they had ever expected. Phew! Things were looking good.
Diversions aside, we began our preparation for the Imbolc sunset.
The Bringing of the Light
I had brought candles for Kal, Mike and myself. The candles were inscribed with a symbol that I had created that was specific to what I wished for them in the coming year. Mile’s sigil was to have increased healing power, Kal’s was for the work on his book to come to fruition, and mine was for me to have the power to connect to my ancestor energies. We each lit our candles and placed them or held them wherever felt appropriate, concentrating on the sigil’s shape and its intention. As I gazed at the flame of my candle I began to feel a connection with a female entity that was hovering around the ancient stone structure of the chamber.
I got a message that I should do work and not research this year. I should favour ‘doing’ rather than ‘learning’. Time to act, not to plan. This is in line with my intuition which has been to get everything planned for the year as early as possible so that I can focus my efforts on just doing the work.
The dowsing rods confirmed the psychic impressions offered by those present that there was a female spirit, possibly Elen or Brigid, standing inside the chamber. I dowsed as to the location which they confirmed. My dowsing showed me that there was indeed a female spirit at that location, and that she answered to the name of Elen, AND to Brigid. Subsequent dowsing on the subject has also re-iterated that the two energy forms have some element of correspondence, as the rods react the same way about questions related to either name.
When I dowsed for the best location to be in I was taken to a male power centre and the direction I needed to face was directly into the setting sun. I concluded from this that I needed some aspect of male energy that day. I dowsed this, and then continued to dowse that I will need more Sun energy this year. This male energy would be important to provide me with the “motivational force” that I needed in order to act in the world and to make my magick manifest (which hearkens back to a previous directive some years ago).
At the site itself there were many signs of “half and half”, of a balance between light and dark. I would see stones half light on one side, and in darkness and shadow on the other. People’s faces would be lit on one side not the other. Lots of different times this was noticeable. When it was mentioned we all agreed that it was an effect of being “half way from Winter to Spring”.
Mike’s friend Janet said that Brigid thanked Mike and myself for our work at The Bridestones. Janet could see psychically the energy forms we had created there, and as she described them for the first time Mike and I looked at each other because we knew that she was describing exactly the forms we knew we had visualised and dowsed afterwards as having been present. Incredible, this woman’s abilities to “see”. These things are invisible to me except through touch and dowsing. Janet also commented that she could see what she called “elementals”, and which Mike called “faeries” present at the site, watching us work from the edges of the trees, shrubs and bushes.
Brigid makes an appearance
Having dowsed Brigid’s power centre, and after watching Mike performing a ritual to bring in the light using his sigil-inscribed candle at the same spot, I innocently took a photograph of the space when the sun was setting behind the tall stones. It seems as though Brigid chose this moment to make an appearance as a spot of light:
We all watched the sun set with our candles lit, and soon it was so cold that we retreated back to Mike’s house for a long chat about the day’s amazing work and findings.
