Delphi – Pythia’s Prophecy
Meeting the Oracle
Now I sound like an excerpt from The Matrix films. In this second part of the Delphi experience I will tell you about my meeting with the spirit of The Oracle. If you remember my first part I had just emerged from a water sluice, which was fortunately dry, and it had shaped my aura so that it was condensed, and thus I felt well protected. I hopped back over the rope that delineated the forbidden zone that I had been in. It felt good to be “lawful” again. No harm done (as one would expect from a druid).
Before me now were the towering columns of The Temple of Apollo. I approached warily. Something was warning me off this place. It felt uncomfortable. Having felt that feeling in the pit of my stomach many times before I knew to take heed and so I got out my dowsing rods. Time to find out where I SHOULD be, if it wasn’t inside this sun-oriented temple.
The dowsing rods took me to the very edges of the entrance, almost hugging the wall that defined the far side of The Sacred Way which ran down alongside the temple. I had asked to be taken to a place where I could meet with the Oracle of Delphi, and sooner than expected the rods pointed quite definitely into a seemingly innocuous recess opposite the main temple in the wall of the Sacred Way. I stepped up and in to see what was going on.

Entrance to the Temple of Apollo
When I looked at the plans of the temple site on my return the alcove was not even mentioned. No-one seems to have defined a purpose for it, or to have given it much thought. Perhaps this was why the remaining spirit of the Oracle of Delphi could be found int his location. Or perhaps she had always been here but people had simply never noticed? Either way, it was time to commune with what energy remained in order to see if I could obtain some information. I let my gaze relax, and did my connection routine. Soon I was no longer alone.

The Pythian Enclave
The Art of Prophesy
She coiled her energy in a female spiral up my spine, culminating in a point inside the middle of my head. I was connected to the site, and now The Oracle was also connected to me. She asked me what I wanted – why was I calling her? I asked her whether it was possible for me to learn the art of prophesy? Her first response was: “Do you really want to learn about prophesy? Do you realise the implications of such a feat?” That made me recoil, and break the connection with her.
I came back to consciousness. Wow – she was right – there were deep implications to being able to foresee future events…. did I really want to access such a power? I thought about it a bit more. Then I decided. It was already part of my training – the Art of Divination. I was already using tarot cards, and foretelling the future was already, to a small extent, part of the processes I used to move me forwards on my path. I came back to connection with her to deliver my response. Yes, I wanted to know about the power! She seemed pleased that I had at least considered it a bit more.
Pythia showed me that prophesy involved the deliberate bringing together of the male, female and neutral energies to a single point of unity within the mind. The picture offered was like that of a tripod where three serpents coiled their heads together. Such a striking image! Later, when I visited the Museum of Delphi down below the complex I would see an image of exactly that! It was of a serpentine column with a tripod at the top where three serpent heads were brought together to balance it.
Then she showed me that this was also The Past, The Present and The Future – the three perceived strands of Time – coming together at a point inside the head. This is a kind of “zero point”, a space inside your head that is outside of time, and within which one can work without the influence of time – a “dream space”, if you will. She showed me that bringing the three strands together in this space creates the conditions to look at any event in a prophetic way, to obtain information that is outside of normal bounds of perception.
How could this bringing together of the three energies in the ’zero point’ be achieved? It required the use of Joy. I have known about this in other magickal work I have done. The trigger, the Prime Mover, the motivator for this work is the employment of Joy energy to initiate the course of the magical energy. This joy is created within oneself, and once generated is allowed to be projected onto or into the work through the Heart Chakra centre. Sounds esoteric and mad, but once you’ve done it you’re amazed at how easy it is.
In fact, you do it a lot already, but you just don’t realise that’s what you’re doing because it’s a natural response to something that you genuinely love. How many times have you “projected” your loving feelings onto a partner or pet? Oh my god, when I read that line back that seemed SO badly worded! But you know what I mean!
A Seemingly Random Offering
Kal had no idea what I had been doing, and he was off on his own adventure. At this point we happened to be at roughly the same place in the temple complex, so I waited for him to see what he was up to. He seemed to be “on a mission”, and our ‘check-in’ was brief. All was going well. Good. We’d talk in detail later. We had a lot of travelling to do, anyway, and that would be time spent chatting. Now was best used for working.
Kal leapt up onto a nearby platform and began lighting several sticks of incense. “Light one for me?” I asked. He nodded in agreement and said “It’s an offering.” “Good,” I responded, “I’d like to make an offering for the Oracle.” I stepped back and looked at the description plaque that described the space: “Offering of Craterus” it said. “Hey Kal, you’re in the Offering of Craterus!” He looked bemused, then surprise overtook his expression – “That’s mad! This place is called The Offering?“. Another coincidental thread in the tapestry we weave.

An offering from Kal Crateros
We reconvened to catch up on each others’ journey so far. Following the dowsing rods I was taken off in another direction, upwards, towards the amphitheatre. From hereon in the journey would change from a search for the Oracle, and more towards discovering the source of her powers. Delphi had one last surprise for me – one that was nearly dangerously overwhelming, in a real physical sense!

I think you could be right about the time of the year – it was a very hot (but not thundery) July when I was there so the energy would be very different. And the feeling centred on the Apollo temple itself, it was definitely the focus. But I had the same impression as you about the rest of the site ‘light, airy and gentle’. It’s a wonderful, wonderful place.
Interesting that you felt that heavy, dense response from the Temple of Apollo. I couldn’t even go near it (nor did I want to). I imagine that if I had, I might have experienced something similar to the kind of energy ‘flavour’ that you did. The dowsing rods made sure I didn’t go near, and I knew better than to countermand them!
I think if you had, it would have certainly knocked you off course and you wouldn’t have discovered what you needed to there. I’ve always assumed that it was the energy form worshipped as Apollo, simply because I was then plunged into endless dolphin coincidences for the rest of the holiday (you know how it goes…). As the Dolphin is the animal most strongly associated with him it just made a sort of sense, but I could be completely wrong, of course!
Oh I know what those “coincidences” are like – you start seeing references to the symbol or image all the time. I was surprised to see that Apollo was symbolised by a dolphin. I wonder if that’s why the French Kings gave themselves that title too?
Luckily, as far as staying on track is concerned, the dowsing rods help with that. Following intuition it’s easy to get distracted, I find.
I’ve been looking forward to reading you and Kal’s Delphi Experiences. I was there many years ago on a guided tour. I’d rather soak up the atmosphere of a place than be talked to, so I’d wandered away from the others and was standing in front of the Temple of Apollo. As I stood there the atmosphere suddenly became darker and heavy – I’d describe it as charged, almost like before a thunderstorm. The sun may have gone behind a small cloud (it was a very bright day), but it seemed much more than that. Then I clearly heard a male voice inside my head saying ‘I am still here’. It really stunned me. Then the atmosphere lifted and everything returned to normal. It felt like a powerful rather than a frightening presence. I’d found a beautiful large pine cone so I decided to leave it on the steps as an offering rather than take it away with me! I’ve thought about it a lot since and have read Hamish Miller and Paul Broadhurst’s ‘Dance of the Dragon’. I wasn’t surprised that they had found that there were still energies flowing through there and that Dephi remains a very powerful place. I love to return myself without all the tour distractions.
I’ve always though the triple snake of the Tripod was unusual so your insight is very interesting.
If you want a quieter time to go then the end of February is a great time. It’s the end of the ski season, and there aren’t many tourists there at all. Lovely!
Interesting to hear about your experiences with the feeling and the voice. I certainly felt there was still something remaining there, but it didn’t feel strong to me. Perhaps that was due to the time of year, and the relative strength of the earth energies in that area? We both felt that the atmosphere was light, airy and gentle, and a very positive undercurrent throughout the site.
However, there are some interesting and darker experiences to come. Or should I say ‘lighter’ too?
You’ll have to wait for the next parts – coming very soon.
