Maiden of Austin

Maiden of Austin

Occasionally I am sent away. Relocated. Shoved to the furthest edges of the world through the medium of what is known socially as “Work”. Whilst I consider it an honour to be offered the opportunity to travel so far, occasionally I am left spiritually bereft by the choice of location. When I heard that I was to be going to Austin in Texas I had mixed reactions. On the one hand I knew that Austin was a vibrant city with a fantastic music festival called South By South West (SXSW). Coincidentally, I would be there right when the “South By” festival was in full swing. Hooray! However, I also suspected that Austin would be a built-up featureless and relatively barren area of the globe with little opportunity for me to “go wild” and...

Surrey 2 – The Deerhunter

Surrey 2 – The Deerhunter

In the second tale from my Surrey wanderings I was headed for Cockrow Bell Barrow [link]. This was at the very edge of Ockham Common, close to the junction of the M25 and A3. The air was clear and still. The coolness of the autumn morning was being tinged with a surprisingly warm sun, and the temperature fluctuated depending on whether you stood in the direct sunlight or the shade of what was left of a tree’s canopy. As I walked the paths of the common, heading vaguely for the M25, not neccessarily by the most direct route, I found that I was being followed across the common by some large shapes. Two cows had decided they wanted a drink from a water trough that appeared unexpectedly int he midst of some woodland close to the roar of the M25 traffic. On my...

Song of the Plains Wind

Song of the Plains Wind

I was at Alderley Edge in the Wizard’s Wood. Kal was with me – it had been his idea (I think). The heat of the evening air was regulated by a smooth cooling breeze that was sufficient to lift your hair and cool the brow. The trees were playing a melody of different rustling noises in tempo with the wind’s movement. It was a perfect evening for me to try to discover The Song of the Plains Wind. This would be the first of my three wind songs that I was being asked to learn. When I looked back through my quests for the year i realised that this has been one of the first instructions I had received this year, but of course, as this was now the height of summer I had forgotten about such distant memories. Yet the advice had returned to me, and I...

An unusual time at the Wizards Wood

An unusual time at the Wizards Wood

It was a beautiful evening when Chris and I decided to pay a visit to one of our favourite forests. The wood at Alderley Edge. We arrived there in the early evening and the forest was as welcoming as ever. Stepping into the mystical wood we both drew our rods and began to follow them, and follow them, and follow them. After several minutes we stopped to take stock, something unusual was happening. After taking us to a place of preparation the rods began to take us to some odd places. A tree here, a bush there, a hillock the other. At each place they demanded that we stop, look around, be patient. If this had happened a couple of times, we probably would have ignored it but it happened again and again. Occasionally I would attempt to elicit an answer to a question...

Aura sharing and a dream

Aura sharing and a dream

I wasn’t finished for this trip to the Ancient Yew. I had come with a question and had been given the guidance to be patient. Lovely! That is the order of the year isn’t it? After that, I hesitate to call it revelation, I was directed at flowering bush some feet away from the Yew. I went to it and listened to its wisdom It gave me the understanding that I should lie down some feet away on the grass. I did so, on my back and looked up at the sky. As I did I noticed that I was at the edge of the canopy of the Yew. Side note: Many years ago, Chris and I had played with auras and found that a tree had an aura often the size of its canopy and sometimes to the extremity of the roots below the ground. I felt that I was at the edge of the Yews aura when an...

The Question and an Ancient Yew

The Question and an Ancient Yew

Last week I visited the Wizards Wood in Alderley Edge and had a visitation by that amazing and beguiling goddess Caileach. She informed me that I should meet her at the Genesis of places, the Hill of Tara, with a Question. What that question is is a mystery. Perhaps THE most knowledgeable being that we have encountered in our travels is the Ancient Yew at Llangernyw. So I suggested a trip to visit that being and Chris accepted it. We arrived at the place at 9pm and the sky was still a beautiful blue. If nothing else, this sacred place is the most welcoming place we go to. It is always happy to see us and we feel so comfortable in its presence. This visit was no exception. Asking the rods whether I needed to prepare got an immediate No. However there was something...
