Surrey 3- The Well of Anu

Surrey 3- The Well of Anu

Overlooking the ever-expanding amusement theme park that is Thorpe Park is a beautiful hill which is inhabited largely by dog walkers. I pulled off the B388 and headed up the hill, parking at the lower car park on the side facing the theme park. I had a choice of paths – top, middle or bottom. As I was in search of a St. Anne’s Well I made an educated guess at the bottom path. Experience now tells me that I should have taken the middle path.  The mid-afternoon sun was glinting dreamily through the beech branches as I kicked leaves all the way down the hill and dodged small brown piles that may have been mud but probably weren’t. Some of the small brown piles had been conveniently tied in small black plastic bags and then left hanging from low...

Imbolc 2016 P3 Criss-Crossing Lines

Imbolc 2016 P3 Criss-Crossing Lines

There was more to my visit to Gawton’s Well at Imbolc. Not only had I been fortunate enough to be given my new quest for the Imbolc to Spring period, but I was also about to learn something important about the way that land spirits are formed and how their influence is distributed. Having felt that I could no longer maintain the energies required to keep a strong subtle energy connection to the Brigid spirit, I turned my attentions to an altogether different task – I went back to good old dowsing! Gathering my trusty rods (only recently re-discovered hiding in a drawer all Winter) I sought a starting point for some investigatory work. I knew that Imbolc signaled the return of the male earth energy lines, so that seemed like a good concept to begin...

Imbolc 2016 P2 The Flame of Brigid

Imbolc 2016 P2 The Flame of Brigid

We were at Gawton’s Well. I say “we”, as I was with shamanic friend Julia. I was sitting beneath one of the guardian yew trees which congregate around the well head like static souls. Perched parrot-like I was rocking myself gently into a trance, intoning various snippets of near-silent whispers of wisdom. I was imparting my Imbolc feelings to the feral gathering of sprites and undines which I could sense gathering to observe my ritualistic movements. I felt a connection emerging from the cluster of subtle threads that I will call my assemblage point (even though I am aware this deviates in usage from how Casteneda would have used it). They melted and flowed over the well water, seeking connection, sympathetic vibration, attention, information;...

Imbolc 2016 P1 Bursting the Bag of Light

Imbolc 2016 P1 Bursting the Bag of Light

I had the feeling that Kal was with me since the morning of the 2nd February. He was impelling, encouraging and inviting me to re-start my spiritual cycle of following the year’s special energetic high points. My tarot draw done recently showed the figure Dagonet as the over-arching influence of this year. This is the travelling jester turned knight. That was Kal all over! Seems like I was due to have some fun this year. My tarot reading for the start of the year had suggested a well as a starting point, and of course as it was Imbolc then a site related to Brigid would be the obvious choice. I decided to introduce her to some of the more accessible wonders of the Cheshire/Staffordshire borderlands – Gawton’s Well and Stone, and The Bridestones....

Summer 2015 – P7 – The Light of Brighid

Summer 2015 – P7 – The Light of Brighid

In the last of my Summer Solstice posts (can you believe we’ve generated so much from one weekend?) we are taken on an escorted tour of a sacred site. We have left David at Fourknocks, but Regina has stayed with us to show us one more site: The Shrine of Brigid at Faughart. We arrived at the shrine site and parked alongside a bus and another car. Throughout the period we visited the car park would get busier, and the site more populous. Regina mentioned that most of the visitors were from the traveller community. The site was quite unusual – a mixture of ancient stones with healing properties and a clutter of modern …. stuff… that seemed to be aimed at… er, informing the visitor and guiding them on their sacred journey in praise of...

Summer 2015 – P6 – Three Winds

Summer 2015 – P6 – Three Winds

After spending a delightful lunchtime in the company of our Irish hosts Regina and David, we set off again heading for a site which we had visited before – Knockbrach – a hill which we knew had a ‘fort’ on top. David, however, wanted to show us some other structures on the hill that we might not have known about. How exciting! What were these structures? Regina drove us to the foot of the hill and we tumbled out into the summer sunshine, yet clothed against the cool wind. Drawn to one side As we walked up, chatting and enjoying the spray of summer flowers creating fan patterns as they flowed in chorus with the breeze, there was an increasing sense of increasing our senses. Everything was being heightened as we climbed. Their...
