The Mad Sculptor of Meifod – P4 Winter 2016

The Mad Sculptor of Meifod – P4 Winter 2016

Druids visiting churches? Well, it’s more a case of visiting a site which contains something interesting. In this case M and I were at the end of our Winter Solstice day. As the light began to fade we headed to our final destination – St Tysilio & St Mary church in Meifod, The attraction? A sculpted stone of unusual origins. The church stands in large grounds with several older trees flanking the building and lining the approach. The building itself is larger than the town would seem to warrant, but that’s often the case for places which were once hugely significant, but which have now fallen into obscurity. We found the church to be open and welcoming, and were not surprised to find that a clergy-lady was its custodian. Along with a...

The Wye Connection

The Wye Connection

I cannot now tell you what prompted me to choose this destination. I think I was looking for a dolmen that I had not been to before, and which was within 2 hours drive of home. I think I narrowed the search down to the county of Powys in Wales, but as this is a huge county that wasn’t much of a narrowing! What resulted was this nice-looking dolmen structure about two hours away. That was as much thinking as went into the decision. I set myself a destination of the nearest town – Rhayader. I noticed, with interest, that the general area was close to the River Wye. That is a river that holds a particular fascination for me, and I have no idea why. I love the Wye Valley, Monmouthshire, that Powys region – the whole thing about it. I was about to...

Crosses for the Bride

Crosses for the Bride

In preparation for Imbolc I wanted to construct something similar to what I had seen at other sacred sites related to the goddess Brigid – a wooden cross. I decided to make two crosses – one for me and one for my friend Julia, who would be accompanying me for my Imbolc outing. My concept was to create a symbolic union of two opposing forces – Holly and Oak. These woods symbolize Winter and Summer respectively (see the tales of the battle of the Holly and Oak King). The obvious place to go for me was Delamere Forest – a huge expanse of mostly pine forest, yet it retained some of its deciduous tree species too. I couldn’t remember ever seeing any holly, but I was sure there was plenty of oak in the forest. Once there I began the...

Moon kissed Earth – Lammas 6

Moon kissed Earth – Lammas 6

We were early, by a long chalk. Having rested and supped for the evening we had set out to continue our pilgrimage within the Vale of Kilmartin. Our goal was the sacred site known as the Moon Temple. We were also lucky in that the Moon had been full only the day before and thus its energies were very abundant. However as I said, we were early. Not only that but the moon was going to rise over a significant hill, which meant that more time had to be included for that to occur. It seems, patience was going to be the order of the evening or indeed night. Given the time we had spare, we decided to walk into the vale from the village and not only that but go for a long stroll along the river that bounds the vale. We had a small adventure on that stroll which I will...

Power object created

Power object created

I noticed today that I check the energies (and do some work if needed) more often than I clean my rooms. Not that my abode isn’t clean, you understand. Anyway, I was up bright and earlier than normal and had one of them urges to check the energies of my rooms. I grabbed the rods and threw them on to the bed as I went through my morning ablutions. Note: I threw the rods on the bed to avoid the SEP (Somebody Else’s Problem) field. This is a phenomena that both Chris and I have observed in ourselves, in each other and in the world at large behaviour. Simply put, there seems to be some aversion to doing energetic work on oneself or ones own area of living. We haven’t explored it at length as “IT” itself suffers from the same phenomena. ...

Power Object…Dream Catcher

Power Object…Dream Catcher

I was at the rather fabulous Om Yoga event the other week ostensibly as a Hug Ambassador but also to take in the energy and atmosphere of the place. It was definitely something you want to go to should the event be happening near you. Whilst I was there I wondered whether there was anything worthy of my particular attention. Finding a quiet spot was difficult but I managed it and there I tuned out the mundane and tuned in the sacred. I wandered aimlessly or indeed aim-fully through the many stands until I came to one that was selling esotoria. Crystals, incense, books and other new (and old) age paraphernalia. I scanned the items for sale and my eye was caught by a Dream Catcher. Now, I have bought these items for friends on many occasions but have never...
