Ouija boards – Wetting your appetite Part 1 of 2
The YesNo board
The other day I was asked about my thoughts on the Ouija board and using it. The asker knew about my explorations in the paranormal and that was the impetus for their question.
In my life I’ve had 3 experiences with an OuiJa board. Two of these were as a user (when Iwas a naive student) and the third was dealing with the consequences of someone else’s use. All 3 encounters had put me off for life, however, in answer to the questioner I said, give me a few days and I’ll let you know.
My problem is this, many people have used the OuiJa board and have reported a boring evening. Lot’s right? Derren Brown the famed (in the UK) illusionist has proclaimed that it is all to do with an idemotor effect. What I wanted to know (in a dowsing sense) was why were many encounters boring and others more interesting?
The question that immediately came to mind was…
- “is the Ouija board accessing the same Knowledge source as dowsing rods?”
That moved me to other questions…
- “were we contacting the shades of dead people?”
- Were we contacting entities?
- Was there a reason as to why most of the time nothing exciting happened?
- Was this to do with the energies of the place?
- Was it to do with the energies of the people?
- Did astronomical/astrological energies play a part?
Further questions were asked…
- Was it safe to use an Ouija board?
- Was it safe if we put protection up?
- Could it be made safer?
- Which of these was the key factor?
Still, this is all conjecture (I love that word) so against my own historical feelings. I decided to consider having another bash at this dangerous pastime.
This is a wet your appetite post…ask your intuition in whatever way you fancy. what do you think (feel) the answers are to the above questions?

Ignoring the signs
I was looking for some software on the Internet yesterday and as I looked up a crow flew across my window. I acknowledged it and continued my search. A few seconds later it flew by again and I gave it a couple of seconds of pondering before continuing on. Some 15 minutes later I had failed to find a legitimate copy of the software but had found a dubious one. I downloaded it and was preparing to install it when the crow flew by and landed on the tree in front of my room. I looked out at it and recall having the thought, “you’re warning me not to install this, aren’t you?” Of course my rational brain kicked this thought into touch and I hit the INSTALL button.
Later that day I started to notice the odd strange thing happening to my computer and it wasn’t long before I realised that it was infected with a virus. Argghhhh!!!!
Question for you guys: Was the crow warning me? or am I just connecting two random dots?

Synchronicity TV
I just wanted to drop you guys a quick note. Today I was exploring synchronicities and was given a notion of a sacred site to visit for Imbolc (more later). Sometimes though, I like to make sure that the world and I are on the same page. Is it a matter of trust? No, I don’t think so. More like a matter of not wanting to waste time. This re-affirmation idea entered my mind whilst I stepped into the local town centerm in the form of
- “please give me a sign to show that the sacred site in question is the one to visit on Imbolc”
Turning the next corner I saw the shop (Bijou Brigitt) in the image to the left. Coincidence, right?
Actually this isn’t the point of this post. Rather it is this. I returned home from this coincidence pondering afternoon and switched on my computer to an email from a friend.
- You have to watch this…”
and so I did. The TV series (for which this is the pilot) is called Touch and is a almost must see for those interested in the miraculous reach of synchronicities. Here is a trailer for it…

Just when you thought it was safe…it was
A friend of a friend called me in to do some investigation on her apartments energies and so I did. Before I did so I met up with her for a coffee and asked her about why she thought there might be an energetic issue. Her list of complaints runs thus…
- It’s always cold in the back room.
- I’ve had a spate of bad luck since I moved into the apartment (3 years ago)
- Boyfriend cheating on her
- Was laid off from work twice
- Various illnesses (though nothing serious)
- I’ve decorated twice and had a Feng Shui guy in too but it still feels off
With these under my belt I toddled off and turned up at her door one fresh and freezing winters day. Her apartment was pretty normal as they go. Three bedrooms, kitchen, living and sitting room as one. Two bathrooms (one en-suite).
As has become a practice now when I house dowse, I stood at her door and asked to be let in. She wasn’t weirded out by this request (which was nice but weird in its own right). I walked in and decided to dowse straight off the bat as the lady made tea.
- How many positive power centers are there? 2. Negative? 1.
- Whats the strength of the positive ones? 5 and 3. Negative? 3.
Nothing too bad about that. In my book anything below a 4 is pretty normal (a microwave in the wrong place has given me a 3 once).
- Is there anything significantly wrong? No
Oh, Okay.
- Are any of the above majorly caused by the energy configuration of the apartment? No.
Hmmm…
- Is there anything I can do to improve the energies of the home? Yes. (I guess there is always something you can do, right?)
I went into the kitchen as the kettle finished boiling and the lady eagerly asked what I had learned. “Nothing,” I responded, “The energies in your home are pretty normal.” She looked quite disappointed I have to say, what did she want? An ogre in the attic?
Sometimes it is just a matter of life being a ….

The eagerly anticipated year 2012
Following on from what my fearless friend has begun to put out there into the Make-It-So-O-Sphere, I too have a list of things that I am anticipating doing this year. Inspired by Kal’s list I have dug deep into my bonce and lifted out some thoughts that were lurking within, and then combined them with some “I should have done that”‘s from last year. Of course, life is always more interesting than the rather rude and dull tale of it that we imagine will be its unfolding. It is always much more cleverly-crafted and exquisitely wrought than our feeble imaginations can hope to furnish. Notwithstanding my own feeble imagination, I wish to present some imaginings for the forthcoming year, but before I do that let’s just go over some of the background to this infamous date.
Why is 2012 being talked about?
Good question, if I do say so myself. Why is it different to any other year, except perhaps the turning of the millennium? Primarily the hype has been generated by a number of people who have not only jumped onto a moving bandwagon, but have actively gone out of their way to assist with its maintenance and enhancement, even going as far as tuning it up so that it runs faster and with more of a roar! Lots of New Age types have been “pimping the ride”, so to speak, of the 2012 bandwagon.
There are a number of phases to this 2012 ride:-
Phase 1 (20 years to go) – A few isolated voices were trying to find a reason why the end of the Mayan Calendar might be important. Some said that the Earth itself would align with other planets in our Solar System along an axis that aligned with the centre of the Galaxy itself, and that this would cause something to happen. 2/10 panic rating.
Phase 2 (10 years to go) – John Major Jenkins, Ian Xel Lungold, Carl Calleman and a few others try to explain their theory that time may be speeding up and consciousness may be developing to match it on a global scale. As the internet develops this seems like a worthy theory. 5/10 panic rating.
Phase 3 (5 years ago) – Every man and his dog have boarded the 2012 train but everyone has their own idea of where the train is headed. Splits, factions and mayhem ensue, but everyone is still thinking that something is going to happen. 9/10 panic rating.
Phase 4 (today) – The factions have split off into four main interest groups – Doubters, Touters, Slackers and Backtrackers. There are those who think that nothing will happen (The Doubters), those that think that something will happen (The Touters), those who regularly change their minds (The Backtrackers), those who are hedging their bets (The Slackers). 3/10 panic rating.
So what is my opinion? Where do I stand? As you may expect, I stand at the outside of these four interest groups in an interest group of one. I watch what they do, and I see where it takes them. I don’t intervene, interfere or offer any advice to them. They’re all mad. I have my own madness to work with, and if any of them want to follow my 2012 theories then they are free to do so. But I shan’t be telling anyone what they are. Just like a hedge druid.
Where my own path is leading me
In amongst all the 2012 theories (and I have read many of them) I come back to finding my own path through the year. Surely, that is all that any of us can do in such circumstances? In the midst of, and often in spite of, the potential for ensuing chaos and derangement here are the topics that I anticipate I may be involved with in the next round of the Sun.
a) Ancestor energy recovery
b) Teaching and Presentation of data (one course developed, several others in preparation)
c) Diagnosing and Healing people (using some of Elizabeth Brown’s methods of causative diagnosis)
d) Learning the way ancient site energies work (an ongoing task)
Here are some of the ancient sites that I want to visit:-
- The Pyramids of Egypt
- The Pyramids of Bosnia
- Rathcrogan in Ireland
- Kilmartin in Scotland
- St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall
I can see a theme developing there – I may be visiting a lot of mounds and pyramids. It must be something to do with the Sun energies, the male forces, that I have found can accumulate and intensity at the peak of such structures. Something in my druidic unconscious has already set about telling me that I need this energy next year. Let’s see if that is indeed what happens!

2012 Expectations
I am a great believer in setting up expectations. Here are two reasons…
- Yes, there is the talk of setting them up will only lead to a bigger fall. But expectations to me are our gesture to the Universe. It’s like kids before Christmas hinting to their parents about what they want. Not that I am saying that the universe is our creator…er…or am I?
- Fulfilment of expectations are a great way to get a sense that the universe is in our favour, which of course it is, but it’s nice to get a confirmation once and while.
Okay, so what are my expectations from the Mayan end of the cycle year?
Hedge druid goes global
I seem to have recovered my erstwhile lost sense of globe trotting and so my expectations are to fulfill a few global sacred site visits. On the list as potentials are…Egyptian pyramids, Peruvian cities, Bosnian pyramids, Easter Island statues, Maori sacred sites, native american holy places. And of course many of the home (UK) grown sites we still have to explore.
2012 Phenomena
Okay, I will never be jumping on this bandwagon. If anything I am a 2012 denier, there you go, feel free to tell me I was wrong while the world falls apart. I am a psychological explorer however and am very interested in the psychology of such beliefs so from that perspective expect a post or two.
Active Enlightenment
Guys! 2012 is the year that the audio-visual-written sensation that is Active Enlightenment will be launched. I have to say the personal and energetic development program is looking good. I don’t want to say too much about it at the moment (thus creating a sense of mystery and anticipation).
Knights Quest
Will I ever get my knighthood? Yes! This year there is nothing stopping me from fulfilling the edicts of this quest. Bring on the blue keys! Imbolc is when it will all fall into the next spiral.
Energy Double
I really want to explore this phenomena more, but it is so darned intangible that I don’t even know if I am exploring it. Hope to get to grips (possibly literally) with this.
House Energies
Okay, I am getting quite good at this (thus spake Kal’s ego) so please expect more of these. Indeed there are a couple of posts being created in draft. One of them was a failure from which a lot can be (was) learned.
And more…
Tarot, wand making (remember that one?) human energies, courses exploring the paranormal and holistic healing. Note…Gwas has already put forward his exciting sacred site course.
Presentation…
I expect to be providing some audios and videos of our explorations having got hold of After-Effects and other editing software. So I’m looking forward to sharing that with you.
Last word…
I have to laugh, I just read Gwas’s expectations and wrote an email to him saying, “Isn’t it strange that the year turns out more exciting than our expectations of them”

The world is changing
The world has changed.
Sacred calendars tell us of the seasons and festivals. The next one that is approaching is the winter solstice. It is at times such as these that people of old would gather in the fire-lit halls and celebrate or await the reawakening of the world.
These festivals mark the energy of the world as it traverses the sun, astral energies in there truest sense. But what the equation forgets is personal energies.
As Gwas and I have found over the last couple of years is that Earth days are not exact for us, rather what we often find is that alignment occurs for us on days that are out of the sacred calendar.
We put this down to the following reasons:
- Sometimes we are more aligned with lunar energies and so that becomes the “best” time for us.
- Also we feel that the sacred dates are on a sliding scale and so it’s “ok” for us to go about our work on days that are close to the sacred ones.
Both of these are excellent and valid explanations. In this post I would like to offer, not an alternative, but a complementary notion.
Personal Sacred Festivals
My idea is this. Sacred days are days that have to take into account the energetic state of the person celebrating them.
The energetic state of a person is holistic. It should take into account the current energy of the person, there astrological (birth time and place) energy and the energy of their current location i.e. where they are (intend) to celebrate the sacred day.
Given these criteria a sacred date becomes altogether personal doesn’t it? We can see how it got usurped by having a general date for the festival, right? After all such a date would have tremendous social value (protection, social conformity, news gathering and of course collation of energy)
But let’s go back to, what I’m going to call, personal sacred festivals.
First of all, if we examine the equation we note that the most powerful of these components is the Worlds Energy i.e. the sacred date as we know it. So it would make sense that our personal sacred date would be close to these. Second is the power of social energy. With every other Wiccan giving of celebrating energy on the calendrical sacred date, this would draw us to that date too.
Of the birthdate and the current energy of the person? I asked the dowsing rods as to which was the more potent and the answer was half and half – further investigation revealed the following:
- Earth date 60%
- Location 17%
- Birth date 10%
- Current energy 10%
- Social 3%
Surprising results!
Why did I begin this investigation? Well, looking back to last year I felt that the turning point of the year was a couple of weeks earlier than the calendrical (Winter Solstice) date. This year it feels the same too. In fact it feels like today – the 5th of December is pretty close to it. Perhaps another couple of days.
Indeed, now that the Full Moon is upon us, I have complete confidence that today is the day. Time to journey the next rung of the spiral.
See you on the other side
Kal Malik
ps – would love to hear if you guys have had similar experiences or do you feel that the sacred days are the points of change for you?
