There are two places we go to when we need some information – two sites that have never let us down when it comes to getting answers to tricky questions – The Druid’s Circle stone circle up atop Penmaenmawr near Conwy, and the Llangeryw Yew tree that is about half an hour away from there nestled in the north-west tip of Wales. Kal was going for answers to some life and death questions – i.e. questions about his life, and related to the death energies that he was interested in, but certainly wasn’t going to study, oh no. I was going for a host of things: mainly to get some answers about neutral energy and then some miscellaneous bits that had been unresolved for a while.

Maen Crwn

The long trek up the hills behind Penmaenmawr takes you past Red Farm (whose stone circle we have yet to visit) and a standing stone known as “Maen Crwn” or “Round Stone”. Blimey – you can’t leave some people to do the naming, can you? They’re a right ‘un-poetic’ bunch! Anyhow, Round Stone is the noticeable hunk of rock that protrudes through the middle of a field of sheep as you pass by the lone house on the way to the top. Previously we have had negative energies coming off that stone and have avoided doing much with it. The last time I was up that way I felt the urge to “sort it out” and managed to do so merely with some good vibes and a cleverly-placed stone that helped to re-shape the energies.

We checked its’ current status as we passed, and for me it felt fine. For Kal, it was OK, but not somewhere he should remain fro long. That’s fine, at least it wasn’t detrimental this time. I asked Kal to check whether it had been changed due to my previous intervention – he dowsed a “yes” which pleased me. Nice to see your work bearing fruit. There was certainly a less ominous air surrounding the stone, and the area as a whole felt more inviting. The sheep were happy to browse around the stone too, whereas on one memorable previous visit the sheep had actually chased us away as we approached!

Cylch Glanhau

Before we reached the Druid’s Circle there was preparatory business to attend to. There is a small cairn circle known inventively as “Circle 275” in megalithic “circles”, but which I am going to name “Cylch Glanhau” (a perhaps too literal translation of “The Cleaning Circle”). There you go – it has a purpose and has been so named. Kal wandered off to admire the view and check his flies or something, but I remembered that the last time I was here I had been directed to stand within this small circle before going to the Druid’s Circle, and I wanted to see whether that was a necessary step for this particular journey. There was nothing energetically awry with my own field, but the dowsing rods indicated that Kal would need to be cleansed before he visited if he wanted the most favourable “reception” from the circle’s energies.

Kal being cleansed - dirty boy!

So, I called him over and made him stand in the circle for a few minutes before we carried on. He gave me looks which said “Is this strictly necessary?“. I wasn’t being argued with.

Druid’s Circle

Also known as “Y Meini Hirion“, which translates rather prosaically as, “The Standing Stones”. There they go again with their poetic naming – sheesh the romance is killing me! The site is a fair hike to get to and a strain on the car’s engine to even get to “base camp” as it were. Still, the trek is always worth it – Druid’s Circle always rewards effort, and today was no different. The first reward was the view – for the first time ever I could see as far as The Orme at Llandudno.

The long view

I entered the circle by the entrance I had been shown on my previous visit, in the eastern side. That was also how I approached the site, from across the dark heathland and through the marsh at the head of the small brook that runs silently beside the circle. I don’t know why – it just felt right to approach from that way, following animal tracks and instinct.

Once I had entered appropriately, stating name and purpose, I waited for the customary ‘tug’ at my energetic centre – the navel chakra. I got one and so went in, pleased to be back and welcomed. I deposited myself on the usual female recumbent stone in the western edge of the circle, as was my custom. I felt very comfortable now, and wanted to get on with some work. I picked my rods out of my bag and began to dowse almost straight away.

I started by asking is there was any Neutral energy here at the stone circle. I got a “yes“. Good, because otherwise it would be a wholly different experience than I would have hoped for.

Next question. Was it created by:-

The guardian spirit of the place (like at Arbor Low) – No.

By humans – Yes

By animals – Yes

By something other than those entities – No.

I wondered at my own question then – what had I meant what I said “Other”? Further dowsing revealed that “other” could in fact be “trees”, because trees have “mind”, which is something that is a necessary part of forming and moulding neutral energy. Sentience, intelligence, spirit, mind – these are the qualities required to shape the neutral energy type it would seem. Other plants do not come into the same category.

Does it form into arcs, or some other shapes? Arcs only. In fact, I found a straight ley lineThe term used by many British dowsers to describe an energy leyA straight line of neutral energy linking two or more sacred sites or other energetic centres. This is often confused with Alfred Watkins’ concept of the Ley Line. Strictly speaking a ley line does not necessarily mean a neutral energy line, only a sight alignmentAlignment relates to the concept that humans have their own energy fields that are oriented or formed in a specific way such that the person is either suited better to one energy source of another. Some people have their energy fields empowered by the direct subtle energy force of The Sun, whilst others are empowered by the indirect subtle energy of The Moon.

Due to the historical associations and symbolisation of The Sun with masculinity and The Moon with femininity we designate these alignments as either being ‘male’ or ‘female’ alignments accordingly. We interchangeable refer to people as being ‘sun-aligned’ or ‘male-aligned’ and similarly with the female alignment. between notable places, whereas an energy ley is like a radial spoke in a wheel, with energy flowing outwards across the land in a straight line. It has sometimes been found that the energy ley can be diverted from its strict straight path by changes in the landscape or strong attractors that pull it away from its original course.

Energy leys may have inter-twining streams of male and female energies weaving along them, as though the energy ley is an attractor, a pathway or a conduit for the male and female energies.. It is easily confused with ley and therefore its use is not recommended by dowsers. of neutral energy, but that had not been “formed” – it was the energy’s natural shape to travel in a straight line. A gentle reminder about the specificity required in these questions. The ley lines are not shaped by another agency – they may be directed by one, but here at Druids’ Circle that particular energy lineThe direction energy takes when moving. It may be straight or curved, in several dimensions and be composed of one or more different types of energies, i.e. negative, positive or neutral. Energy lines can be found at standing stones and ancient sites but are a general feature in all energy fields. had not been shaped.

My next question was trying to determine whether there were any ley lines going through the site. I kind of already knew that there were, because I found one every time I visited, but with these things you have to ask every time because something may have happened to change that, so I asked, “Is there any neutral energy travelling across the site in a straight line?”. Yes.

Where is it moving in straight lines? – From the tall flat stone in the east to the exit gap in the circle’s south-west side. It bends at the very centre of the circle where a small round patch of earth is bare, but it’s path is straight otherwise. The line extends beyond the circle going out to connect with other sites that are due east and south-west of this stone circle.

Where does it enclose something? – it encloses a double spiral (never found before) which goes both inwards and outwards in a spiral at the bare centre point. This energy form is caused by water passing underground over quartz crystal at this point. This enhances the energetic output of the whole circle. Male + female + neutral energy all combine at this point.

This last set of results was quite astounding to me. Here was a new formation – a double spiral- male energy going one way and female energy going the other. All on top of a neutral ley lineThe term used by many British dowsers to describe an energy leyA straight line of neutral energy linking two or more sacred sites or other energetic centres. It is easily confused with ley and therefore its use is not recommended by dowsers. that is actually being bent out of shape at that point. To find that finally there was water involved in that energy formation was a link to what other dowsers claim they always find at these sites, but that we hardly ever do.

Old school

I had been reading Guy Underwood’s book “Patterns of the Past”. Although I hadn’t got far with it I had come across some interesting assertions. Guy was saying that there were two types fo dowser “Positive” and “Negative”. Positive dowsers could detect most forms of subtle energyA form of energy that has so far eluded scientific definition. It is neither electric, magenetic, nor electro-magnetic, so far as our current technical equipment can measure. It does, however, exhibit many of the characteristics of magnetism and electricity in terms of its effects and properties. It may be a form of either or both of those energies that we have not yet identified., but often struggled with water, whereas Negative dowsers were primarily water diviners, and hardly ever dowsed for earth energies or anything else. I guess I must be positive?

More interestingly to me, Underwood talked about the three types of subtle energyA form of energy that has so far eluded scientific definition. It is neither electric, magenetic, nor electro-magnetic, so far as our current technical equipment can measure. It does, however, exhibit many of the characteristics of magnetism and electricity in terms of its effects and properties. It may be a form of either or both of those energies that we have not yet identified. that he knew about: “track lines“, “aquastats” and “water lines“. Judging by the diagrams that he produces from his earth energy dowsing I was pretty hopeful that finally I had found a dowser who had found similar things to myself and Kal. Perhaps here was an explanation of the energies we had been following for a while? Anyway, I decided to try out Underwood’s definitions at this site, because I had identified a “positive” track or aquastat line (i.e. a male line to us), and a “water” line (the neutral line followed the course of the water). So, I decided to frame my questions in terms of this paradigm.

Do any of the energy forms at this site fit with Guy Underwood’s concepts of the three forms of earth energy: track energy, aquastats or water lines? No. I’ll carry on as before then. This only confirms what we’ve found at many may other sites (almost every one – that unless water is flowing underground and flowing over quartz crystal, then no subtle energyA form of energy that has so far eluded scientific definition. It is neither electric, magenetic, nor electro-magnetic, so far as our current technical equipment can measure. It does, however, exhibit many of the characteristics of magnetism and electricity in terms of its effects and properties. It may be a form of either or both of those energies that we have not yet identified. is being generated. I don’t know when these other dowsers find this relationship…every time we test for it we get a negative response. Some say it is an essential component. I would love to be there when they dowse for that, just to see it happen!

A view of the whole site

The purpose of neutral arcs

We turned our attentions away from following the water line that bent at the bald patch and went out of the circle to join the marshland that we crossed to reach the circle. Our boots were testament to the existence of water, and a flow from under the stone circle seemed likely therefore. More interesting things were to come. My next question was related back to what I had found at Arbor Low recently. Remember my post about that site? At Arbor Low I found an arc at the place inside the circle where the external alleyway that forms the site’s entranceway or processional route would touch the circle if it were extended. Thus, if only in conceptual terms, that point was some kind of entrance or exit point for the site.

Is there an energy arc formed by neutral energy at this site? Yes, two. A pair. Two circles about four feet apart create an arc that is seven feet high. One arc in the southern side forms an entrance, whilst the other arc on the northern side forms an exit. The entrance and exit are for the spirit of the place. The energetic forms of the arcs were created by humans for this purpose. The spirit of the place comes into the circle once a year, and moves around inside it, changing its aura in accordance with its need. The entrance and exit allow it to come in and out of the circle, in fact they are provided for that purpose and possibly describe the motion of the spirit accordingly. Therefore, we should conclude that humans saw that the spirit of place served some purpose in being let in and out. We need to find out what that purpose is.

We were content with this research and Kal wandered off to take a look at the smaller cairn circle “Circle 273″, I think they call it. We now call it “Y Derwydd Bach” – “The Little Druid”. Or “Stumpy” for short. Luckily there was no repair work needed on this smaller stone circle, as we had attended to this on our last visit. It had not been “abused” since we were last there and our work was still intact and the circle’s energies were balanced. Perhaps we have put off the miscreants? Perhaps they have found somewhere easier to get to in order to practise their dark arts? Good riddance to creepy idiots, I say.

View back to Penmaenmawr

We were heading off to Llangernyw again as soon as we descended. It’s great that the days are getting longer. As we journeyed over the hills and down the dales to get to the small village we looked back to see the sunset over the hills that we had been wandering in. It was a beautiful way to get ready for some out and out weirdness that was about to come next!
