Lammas 2012 – Healing History

The day began with the promise of something beautiful to emerge from the nascent silver-grey clouds, whose meagre partings would later reveal the full glory of the late summer sun. Intrepid as always, and eager like beagles penned until their exuberance breaks free, Kal and I rushed for the mutually agreed starting point for most of our special journeys into the magical adventures we live through in Wales. We would start at the Llangernyw Yew and see what visions it might divulge to us today – August 1st – the festival of Lammas in the pagan calendars. At the beginning of the adventure the day felt pregnant with possibilities, and it would happen that I would have a wonderful and inspiring revelation, learn a new magickal technique for self-healing the traumas of the past, and find my way onto the next part of my spiritual path. Let the tale begin!

It was mere seconds before Nature herself was showing me the signs and symbols that have accompanied so many of my special days around the Wheel of the Year. As soon as I began to drive off from home I heard first then saw a buzzard flying low over the car and circling around a nearby field. Of course – all such days should start with the aerial vision from the hawk! The hawk would also re-appear at the end of the day as we returned to the car to drive home again. Almost like a closing narrator to the proceedings, having the final word.

As well as all these coincidental and contrived moments, I was aware that we would be spending the day in the company of the invisible Grain Moon – the August full moon that was burgeoning with its astral emanations on this day and those that surrounded it. It felt like everything was gathering in order to give us the best chance of having a truly meaningful and magickal experience – which is exactly what happened when we followed our intuition and our guides.

The Safety of the Yew Tree

Llangernyw Yew in full splendour

Although yews have many poisonous parts (berries and bark to name but two) there is something that I consider to be very safe about being around this old tree. The Llangernyw Yew is so old that it baffles your sense of history to even consider when it sprouted. Let’s just say that when this tree was beginning its life our ancestors were discovering the wonders of mixing Copper with Zinc to produce a new metal for the first time.

As Kal wandered around the graveyard like a lost ghost (he always has a purpose, really) I sat beneath the tree’s canopy and felt for the right place to sit. I found my place and found that I could connect to the tree very quickly. Moon? Festival Day? Noon? My energy? More experienced? Previous encounters? I don’t know what the magic combination was, but within seconds I was asking for and receiving answers from the bowels of the great yew….

  • “Have I completed the last quest yet?” – “It is a continuous quest until the end of the year.”. Straight question, straight answer.
  • “Am I ready for a quest for this part of the year?” – “You have enough energy, yes.”
  • “Can you tell me the nature of this quest, please?” – “I can’t. You need to go to the Portal Stones.” (situated at the rear of the church). “OK – thanks!”

As I came out of my tree trance I met with wandering Kal. He told me what he had learned so far, and asked what I had got. Nothing yet, really. I’m off to see the Portal Stones. Kal pointed out that his attempts to make the sun appear through the slate-grey Welsh cloud cover was happening as we spoke. I looked up in amazement to see a fiery spotlight appear in the thick grey cloudscape. Impossible, I roared! Kal smiled. “Impossible is nothing!” he seemed to suggest.

Year’s End in Delamere

Tuesday 29th December, 2009

At the end of what had been a fabulous year for dowsing I made what is arguably the most important dowsing discovery to date. Kal had persuaded me to go out on one last dowsing trip for the year, and I had rather grudgingly said yes, not quite seeing what we could achieve in the freezing cold.

I decided to show Kal a local treasure that he hadn’t visited yet – Frodsham Caves, perched behind Overton Hill above Frodsham, frequented by teen rebels with cider fixations, firework testers, litter louts and cattle with upset stomachs, it’s not exactly a beauty spot! However, for some reason it came to mind to visit first before we headed off to Delamere Forest which is nearby.

Frodsham Caves

Once in the caves I was able to re-affirm the positions of the power centres and energy flows I had found previously (most of which I had forgotten about) – Kal’s sit-down spot just inside the cave, the female energies hugging the walls, the weak male energy, the ‘eye holes’ and associated power centre, the male centre at the mouth of the cave.

I associated the weak male energy with the time of year – the sun had only just begun to turn the corner from the darkest day at the end of December. That was an interesting discovery, but nothing compared to the patterns that I traced when I dowsed the power centre that was linked to the two curious holes in the cave front that seemed to form eyes. The power centre linked to these features was particularly revealing. I dowsed the formation: it was a pair of opposing spirals that seemed to form a recognisable shape – a simple shape that I recognised. It was a pair of ram’s horns! I saw the shape clearly in my mind as I traced it over the ground.

I then had a revelation that the formation of the dual opposing spirals may have inspired mankind to associate the symbol with the astrological zodiacal constellation prevalent at the time, e.g. Ram’s horns = Aries = 21st March-20th April = the most energetic time at this location. I dowsed again to determine the dates when these caves were most energetically active: between 3rd – 6th April 2010- which falls within the constellation of…ARIES! Specifically, this ram’s horn formation is most energetic when the sun is setting and can be seen through one of the eyeholes in the cave, and the light falls upon the power centre within. An interesting coincidence.

The eyes! The eyes! Those staring eyes!

Only one of the “eyes” seemed connected to this formation, however. What about the other eye – was it aligned tom a different astrologial time of the year? The eye affecting power centre was aligned to the Summer Solstice sunset position, we determined, on June 21st. It felt like I had stumbled across something here, and it has become my mission for the next 12 months to determine exactly what this may mean, and whether other sites have similar links to astrological signs in the same way. At the time it felt very significant indeed – like my next year’s mission had been given to me.

Delamere Forest

After Frodsham we ventured on towards Delamere Forest. Again, I had no idea what we could achieve at this time of year in the forest – it all seemed a bit pointless, because the energies were going to be at a very low ebb this far into Winter. Nevertheless, again on a whim, I decided to show Kal the bent-over tree that was one of my favourite places in the forest, and which I was sure he would not have found himself yet.

As we walked through a section that in Summer was quite dark and bleak I noticed that the recent rain and snow had actually made the stream running alongside the path forge in tumults of white lively water – how lovely! The water was clearing the stream of sticks, leaves and other assorted blockages and hopefully it would flow better this year. Just the other side of this we got to a place where the dourness lightened. At this spot we both stopped and Kal turned to me with a strained face: “Do you feel that?” he asked. I did – it was that horrible stomach-turning feel of “bad energy”. We looked up to see some telegraph wires and poles cutting through the forest and turning at an angle just above our heads.

A quick dowse from Kal confirmed his suspicions – something was wrong and we had the ability to rectify it – or rather, Kal had the ability to persuade me that I should do something about it by placing my crystals roundabouts to create an energetic barrier to deflect the electrostatic energy and protect the nearby trees. I placed some crystals around the telegraph poles and struts to form an energy barrier to stop the energy from leaking out of the kink in the cable line and into the nearby stream, and affecting the trees that grow at the junction point. Kal dowsed for the location to place crystals and I placed them – that was enough, it seems. I have to leave the crystals there until the Summer for the change to really take effect!

We moved on. We made a brief stop at the bent over tree that is one of the most powerful places in the forest. Since I discovered this spot last year I have been drawn to it many times. In the warmer half of the year this place is heaven, when the sun sets across the field and the light twinkles through the trees. In Winter it becomes a barrier for only those with a brave heart or sturdy boots to pass!

The Bent-Over Birch

Beyond this there is a special place that I was led to by the dowsing rods last year.At the time I didn’t know why I had been taken there, but suddenly, this day, I could see a reason to go – I would try out a ritual that I had been ‘shown’ a few months earlier in a vision when communicating with a Fire Spirit. More about such things to be posted in the near future – I’m kind of building up to that! I feel like I’ve stretched your credulity levels enough for one year, and this year I may have to stretch them a little further, but as I say – we’ll come to that soon. I did a quick ritual using nine teal-light candles. [NOTE: I'm not a big fan of rituals, but I was willing to try]. During the ritual I was given a means to call upon the power of a fire spirit by means of a creative visualisation. It was so subtly simple that I knew I had been given something valuable. Most good information is easily absorbed. I felt that something meaningful had occurred and was pleased.

The moment that my little ritual ended the rain began to come down and hasn’t stopped since – that’s balance, I guess? Or the water spirit making her presence felt? This had turned out to be a rather interesting day after all.

Beltane: Firing manifestations

May 1st, or May Day, is the ancient Celtic fire festival of Beltane. It traditionally marks the appearance of the Pleiades star cluster in the constellation of Taurus, an event linked to the start of the farming calendar (which ends at Samhain, or All Hallow’s Eve). It is a fire festival in recognition of the rise of the fire element (i.e. the power of the sun) at this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, and so solar deities and mythical royal figures are linked to this time in the year. They are said to flourish in their youthful phase, starting at Beltane when they begin to rise to prominence. I planned to mark this by lighting a small fire or a stick of incense at each site to ceremoniously mark this event. I hoped the spirit of the year would travel with me as I journeyed from one site to another, linking them through energy work and fire.

The beautiful Pleiades

The beautiful Pleiades

We decided to keep our work local today. I wanted to visit a familiar haunt that meant something to me, as well as discovering a new one, so I planned three sites: Helsby Hill, Woodhouses Hill and the site of a structure that looked like a hill fort close to Frodsham. The two hills had hill forts marked on the Ordnance Survey map of the area. They are the sites of ancient hill forts. I say ancient, because the hill forts, I suspect, are a much later addition to sites that had some spiritual and energetic significance long before they were fortified or stocked with invading Roman soldiers. A tourist sign in Helsby village reminds us that the archaeology has dated the sites to having habitation since the Iron Age – approximately 800 B.C.E – 42 C.E.

helsby-hill-manifestation-walk-april-2009-2

I walked up Helsby Hill in the mid-morning sunshine hoping for a clear day to do some energy work. My intention was to try something that Hamish Miller had suggested: that manifested (i.e. visualised) patterns can be imprinted onto a place, then they will appear in a more complex form at a connected site. By connected I assumed he meant a sacred site that had some kind of energetic connection to a nearby site. I wasn’t going to rely on that though: I had some ideas in mind to make that connection myself by forming an energetic bridge from one site to another.

Atop Helsby Hill I dowsed to find the location of ‘The Spirit of Helsby Hill’. I didn’t know what that actually might mean, but it seemed a good thing to ask for, as it would involve the co-operation of Nature in my work. I found a circle of lush grass just back from the cliff edge. There I asked to dowse to formation that was the symbol of the hill’s spirit. I traced the following shape: a serpent-like curved zig-zag shape that ended in a sphere. It reminded me of a caduceus symbol without the wings, or at least one half of that shape. I meditated until I felt that I had a connection to this spirit, then added a circle around the symbol as my own identifying mark.

caduceus

Then I projected that image to the next site, even though I had never visited Woodhouses Hill. I simply looked at the map and sent the image to that place. I formed an energetic link by visualising a bridge of energy arcing from one place to the other, and then imprinted the symbol at the other side, and hoped for the best. Woodhouses Hill was a couple of miles’ walk so off I trudged, with Kal in tow acting merely as an animated observer to this energy-play. Most unusual that he didn’t want to participate today, but that he was having too much fun prancing around pretending he was 30 years younger!

helsby-hill-manifestation-walk-april-2009-6

We climbed the very steep sides of Woodhouses, taking the most direct route up to the hill fort site at the top. All along the route crows had been flying around Kal, seemingly accompanying him on his journey. Often I pointed them out, sitting in tall trees that marked our route, or hovering on the wind just in front of us as we walked. Kal just laughed at this. He has come to accept their presence quite naturally, and is beginning to try to tune into any significance they might have as signs or omens. Certainly they have become his totem bird.

Kal’s not one for heights, but he danced up and down the hills that day as though he were unafraid and on springs! Since a recent episode with a tree (post coming soon about that) he had gained a little voice that informs him that he will be just fine when he finds himself on the high edges of paths. A year ago he would never have even come up Helsby Hill, never mind the run up the dizzying sloped of Woodhouses Hill! How we have progressed since starting this journey. We have both overcome things that would make our former selves squirm in fear! ‘Fortune favours the brave’, I believe the saying goes.

We stood now in a beautifully varied and pleasingly-spaced wood at the top of the path, looking around for signs that we were actually in a hill fort – only the slope of the ground would indicate that we were. I dowsed to find the location of where my Helsby Hill circled half-caduceus symbol might have ‘landed’. A minute dowsing through the trees and I found it in a circular clearing between some birch trees. Kal was busy touching trees and occasionally muttering things to them. ‘Edge Wizard’ indeed! He was turning distinctly ‘druidy’ so I ribbed him about it. Of course he protested!

I dowsed for the symbol as Kal watched, It was looser than the original, but it was the same shape, circled strongly by my additional energy. It’s at times like this that you begin to doubt your sanity. Had I just found that because I wanted to find it? Who knows? There it was, responding to the rods whilst I tried to maintain a clear trance-state to be as objective as possible about it. I checked it several times. It was as ‘there’ as anything I had ever dowsed. I was convinced. Kal was surprised and childishly delighted too. I spent a few minutes sending the same pattern on to the next site, just like last time. Again, the destination was not somewhere I had visited before, although I had passed it many times. I could visualise it generally, but not a specific ‘landing site’ for the energy. I wondered what would happen?

We headed off down the slope heading for the back of Frodsham Hill. As we descended the back of Woodhouses Hill we met a man surveying the earthworks that ran along the hill. ‘What are you surveying?‘ we asked after introducing ourselves. The earthworks apparently, to construct a 3D map of the site. Great! All good information that might reveal something interesting, and may add to our understanding of its age and the ways of the people who spent time here.

We arrived at the final site. It turns out it is a man-made long construction, with locked trapdoors in its roof. Was it one of the many World War II bunkers that peppered the hillsides around here? It certainly felt like one, but it was huge – a hundred metres in length and about fifteen metres wide, by about five metres tall. Who knows how deep it went into the hillside? This was no hill fort site! Nevertheless, I wanted to see whether I had sent the symbol onwards as I had done at the two previous sites.

Somebody else thinking of patterns around here?

Somebody else thinking of patterns around here?

I dowsed in the strong winds that buffeted the now rain-sodden grassy bunker roof and found a pattern some ten metres away from where we had sheltered behind one of the many turrets. It was a circle again. Inside the circle was the snaking three energy curves, and the sphere at the bottom, but the rods continued on a different path! They rods wove back and forth in ever-longer sweeps to form a snake pattern that was exactly the opposite of the original form. Now I had a whole caduceus symbol of opposing energy paths coming together at the circular base (or head) of the formation. Wow! Like Hamish Miller had experienced – the manifestation had complexified from one site to another. What did that mean?

I felt that the experiment had been a resounding success. Perhaps I even missed at trick when dowsing the formation at Woodhouses? I couldn’t be sure. However, the main objectives had been achieved. It is possible to send energy from place to place, both a symbol from the land itself, and my own energy formation too in the shape of the enclosing circle. Perhaps next I should see if I can draw a formation from another site that has a manifested energy pattern?

Manifestations 2: chakra healing

It was friday last and I was looking forward to a packed – like sardines – weekend, when I got an email of Gwas, fancy visiting a stone circle on Sunday? With a flurry of calls and an email, I repacked my whole weekend to include this extra activity – I mention this because it was truly a tremendous feat to do so!

Dowsers what do not dowse

I was round at Gwas’s for 10 am on a frosty – but unusually clear sunday morning and after – secretly – checking out the energies in Gwas’s house (ooops). We were off to Cerrig-y-Drudion. En-route we made the essential, and quite normal I might add, step for us of buying food for the trip.

Forty minutes or so later – we stepped out of the old reliable and wandered off down a path into what seemed quite an unenergetic wood. Although we did find a couple of photogenic moments with the sun streaming in -hopefully pic here- the Wood/forest was quite dreary – which is the natural state of woods when humans come along and indiscriminately chop bits of it down!!!

We meandered down paths following a OS map which told us we had parked some 2k from the stone circle. Eventually we reached our destination and lo! No stone circle? We were by the side of Alwen (Translation Angel {GWAS: “Llanfihangel” translates as archangel, but ‘Alwen’ means ‘Noble friend’ apparently) reservoir knee-deep in undergrowth which was frost covered and wet, scratching our heads – playing my side-kick part to the max – I came up with the appropriate ‘here’s another fine mess you got me into’ reference.

It was at this point that Gwas’s dowsed and returned the result that “Here there be no stone circles”. We trampled through some more of the forest feeling a bit miffed and disappointed – but as the order of the day had already been set in a discussion in the car – If you don’t find anything interesting, you make something yourself, how appropriate is/was that!

We decided to head off to Rhuddlan Castle – a place we had dowsed in the past. It was close and we figured we could do some manifestations there.

Oooops, Actually we decided to go to Saint Bueno’s cave, which we had walked passed once and – quite remarkably for us – didn’t bother visiting. The reason I mention it is that as we walked to the car we were discussing and deciding to go to the caves and then strangely ended up heading towards the castle???

Distant Manifestation

As chief navigator (or the only one) I managed to avoid the sunday driver root to the castle. On the way we decided to try our hand at some distant manifestations. So far we have done plenty at sites but never tried a manifestation from a distance. Although we had it on our list of things to try.

Gwas, who was driving said he would have a go too. So for a few minutes in the car we were both attempting to visualise and manifest a symbol(s). At one point Gwas complained that his visualisation kept transforming. Whether this was because of his dual focus on driving and visualising is a question to ask?

For my part, I wanted to visualise something different, so I ended up with a circle with two spirals attached to opposite sides of it. I pluncked it on the far side of the castle (opposite the entrance).

An important note: on the way to Cerrig-y-Drudion Gwas told me that he had attempted a manifestation the night before and wondered whether I would be able to dowse it…having failed to find the site I asked Gwas what he had visualised, he said that it had been a triangle with a circle in it – but (as seems to be the case for him at the moment) the visualisation didn’t seem to stabilise.

Finding the triangle – with a spiral

We arrived at the castle, only to find the entrance closed. Undeterred we hopped over the small wall and continued on – with if I recall the sound of police sirens in the distance -

Gwas asked to see if I could find the energies that he had manifested from the car. I had a go asking “Show me the boundary of Gwas’s manifestation” – I walked some paces on the dew covered grass and found a boundary. I then followed it around and to my surprise it formed a triangle with a spiral in it.

The pattern was clearly visible in the wet grass and I turned to Gwas to ask whether this was what he had manifested? No, he said. I was a bit disappointed and watched as Gwas dowsed another section of the field before the Castle and laid out a pattern which he said was what he had manifested. We both swapped places and I dowsed and followed his outline exactly whilst he retraced my steps exactly.

At the time we both for some reason ignored the triangle and spiral – hmmm why did we do that – But now that I am writing this post I wonder if this could have been Gwas’s nightly manifestation?

Dowsing a manifestation only after the creator has walked it

Walking around to the back of the castle I took Gwas to the location I had manifested my energy pattern and asked him to try his luck. Alas I thought he had it when he got the first cicle but then wandered off on some other energetic pursuit.

I tried to dowse my own and got it first time including the two spiral offshoots. This had us both wondering…why couldn’t we dowse each others manifestations? If you read through the posts herein you will see that we have dowsed each others manifestations before.

It was then that I had a kind of eureka moment, what if we could only dowse them after the creator had dowsed them?…what if the other dowser walked in the energy wake of the manifester? This seems like a feasible answer for the moment – of course more investigation will blow or tether it.

More things to consider:

  • are we just dowsing what we believe to be there?
  • are our manifestations too weak for the other to dowse?
  • maybe we could pin them down somehow (crystals come to mind)
  • we could try local (non distant) manifestations and see how we go

What kind of energy are we manifesting?

Here are some of the questions we asked:

  • Is it Reiki energy? Yes
  • Is it Chi energy? Yes (Gwas asked this – my assumption would be that reiki/chi are the same)
  • Is it related to any of the chakras? No
  • Is it neutral Chi then? (this was a daft question and got a Trickster response)
  • Er…exactly – see how hard it is to form questions!!!

Chakra manifestation

Taking a more pragmatic stance I wanted to see what useful energies I could manifest and this is the first time I(we) did this so – please bare with the rawness of the experiment.

What I wanted to do was combine known knowledge with unknown or perhaps subconscious knowledge. Thus I decided to create a manifestation that would be of energetic benefit to me…“An energy manifestation that would align/frequency/vibrational to a chakra that was beneficial to me”

I visualised a energy spiral – why not – it seems the most prevalent form, embuing it – dont ask how – its a doing thing – with a chakra energy that would be healing for me. Now I didn’t consider which chakra energy would be healing to me – this is where the subconscious or whatever you want to call it comes in.

After a few minutes visualisation I dowsed for the spiral and found it straight away – a triple spin one – short and sweet. I then checked to see which chakra it was vibrationally aligned with and got an immediate response from Earth – the first one? I thought – with a thoughtful air I dowsed for any other frequency matches… Earth, Sacral and Throat were indicated. I reflected on this result for some moments – If I would have wondered at what I thought I would need I wouldn’t have come up with these…or would I? Hmmm.

Gwas came over from his own experiments and asked what I was up to and after a quick recap he had manifested a what? which indicated the following colours yellow and indigo. i.e. Solar plexus and Brow chakras.

We both stood in our power centers and let the energies do there work after which – Gwas dragged me away from the site – I still had a pocket full of questions – and he pulled me away whilst my rods were still spinning!

Reflections on the chakras manifestation

On our return trip as always – ruminations, puzzles and wonder were abound. I expounded a little on the nature and reflection of each chakra and Gwas determined why he got yellow and indigo. I also explained that I could understand the Earth and Sacral energy alignments – but am still puzzled over the throat chakra.

I was exploring this very reason when I got a Trickster response of the rods. left rod staying fixed forward right one twirling inwards…what does that mean?

What answers and the many (as per) questions that go with it

As is always and endlessly the case – each exploration lends to many questions:

  1. for me an important exploration is what I am going to call the Trickster response – how can I explore it tho?
  2. why cant we dowse each others manifestations – until they have been dowsed?
  3. we tested to see how long the manifestation would last and got 30mins – how to make them longer? Gwas determined that we could make them permanent – but how?
  4. there is so much more chakra oriented manifestations we can do – for healing ourselves and others. this is going to be a big area for me.
  5. dowsing each others chakras to detect imbalances and seeing if these match a healing manifestation

Everytime I think we have scratched the surface – the Trickster reminds me that I haven’t.

Kal

PS – If you’re wondering about the Trickster, a post or two on this matter will be materialising soon.

Winter Fun P2

And so…on a rainy Sunday afternoon I decided to do at least some of the manifestations I promised the other day. Rain did eventually stop play but not before some results where obtained.

The experiment was simply to manifest different energy forms in my back garden. A couple of points – I was a bit concerned of looking like a nut because my garden is overlooked on 3 sides – but then I thought – what the heck! Second, since I have only done manifestation at energy sites I wondered whether it would work.

I began by checking to see if there were any energies of any kind already there? No – I checked by criss-crossing the grassy 20ft by 15ft garden. Good!

I then tried to manifest a square – the way I did all the manifestations was to visualise channeling Reiki and then forming it into a square. I opened my crown chakra and let the energy flood into me and then released it through my solar-plexus chakra – which is odd ’cause normally it would be released through my palm chakras.

I visualised it flooding into the garden and making a square shape on the ground. I then tested the boundaries and wow! it was there. I followed the square around and noted the sharp 90 degree corners. Perfect!

I cleared the energy out by visualising a flat energy field falling over the entire grass part and checked to see that it had cleared – yes it had! Great – one out of one.

I now tried something more complex – this time a triangle with a spiral in it. Same kind of visualisation as before and off to dowse.

I hit the boundary and followed it to the first angle – I was a bit worried that I was picking up the old square – but the angle was sharper and as I follwed it through one, two and the third corner I was heading towards the place where I had started and wondered how I was going to connect to the spiral – and then in a really fantastic way the rod eased off the triangle and moved slightly inside and slowly lead into a tightening spiral! Absolutely fantastic!

I cleared this manifestation and just as it was beginning to rain I tried a simple third one – something non sacred geometry …So I went for the letter K – simple. I did the visualisation – this time trying to imprint the energy to stay there longer…

I tested for it a few minutes later and it was there – go up the horizontal spine – sharp 180 degree back half way down the spine and then up to the top right hand branch – then 180 down to the middle and spine and then off down to the bottom right hand branch.

Rain was well stopping play now – so I will check later to see if the energy signature is still there.

3 for 3!

Kal

Winter Fun part 1 of many

Gwas and I are were chatting about what the long winter nights would hold for our energetic pursuits. As always a plethora of ideas, experiments and ruminatory topics emerged. The cold nights haven’t drawn in yet but hey – what we waiting for?

So this weekend the following experiments (exercise) will be preformed in my back garden which is reasonably sizeable for such.

  1. Check to see if any energies are currently there? I guess the simple question “Find any energy lines, pools or barriers?”  If this elicits a response then further investigation and mapping will have to be done…but under the assumption that there aren’t or working around them if there are!
  2. Manifest a non-sacred geometry shape – hmmm – something that is easily identifiable – will think of something…
  3. Determine if manifestation was successful – might even get the old red ribbon out – picture it.
  4. Clear the manifestation – as per Gwas’s post (or is it still in draft?)
  5. See if clearing works?
  6. Manifest a really cool sacred geometry shape – I was going to say a Pentacle but done that one :-( A 3-4-5 triangle with a spiral in it? Cool!
  7. Test it, clear it.
  8. I love working with crystals so I will try a manifestation with a few crystals too -
  9. Test and clear (might be harder to clear??)
  10. Do a final manifestation and leave it – to see if its still there – hours/days later.

Well – thats a good start isn’t it – see you on sunday night when the results will be posted…ooooh can’t wait!

Kal

The Cirencestershire Conflab

Kal has already written a lengthy and laudable account of the British Society of Dowsers conference recently, but he has urged me to add my own bits to it, and so I will add those elements that are in addition to his write-up, or which display my own perspective on those events.

As we journeyed down to deepest darkest Gloucestershire we were in good spirits. I was excited, and wondering about how we might fit into a group that I expected would be primarily of retirement age, or batty as Battenburg cakes. Probably both.

On arrival we were immediately made to feel welcome, and were given our name badges and starter packs. Hmmm. At least Kal had a pen and notebook in the pack – he always takes mental notes instead of writing stuff down. Kal ditched the name badge. I played the game to see what happened. As I’m not a very social person it seemed to help during the day.

Dr. Serena Roney-Dougal – Where Science And Magic Meet:

Although the first lecture of the four we would attend that day, this was the most interesting. Dr.Serena talked about what seemed to be quite diverse subjects, and in some depth, but she managed to pull them all together into a cohesive argument for the validity of shamanic practises, as they related to the earth’s energy grid and fields.

The important information I got from this lecture was:-

  • The earth’s “GeoMagnetic Field”, or GMF, is perceived by Dr.Serena as synonymous with the Hartmann and Curry lines and grids.
  • Earth energy at ancient sacred sites is probably linked to geological features such as fissures, weak points, stress points, fractures and fissures. Water is a factor in the production of earth energies too.
  • When the GMF is strong (or active) due to earth changes (seasons, tide, sunspots, moon phase, geology, earth’s magnetic core) then poltergeist activity and healing work is stronger.
  • When the GMF is weak (or less active) then remote viewing and telepathy is stronger.
  • DMT (Di-Methyl Triptamine) is in the pineal gland of the brain and directs all other systems depending upon its chemical levels.
  • Triptamines can be introduced from external sources such as the ayahuasca vine, or many other shamanic plant extracts, to induce a living dream (or lucid dream state).
  • At 3AM (“The Witching Hour”) our brains naturally produce more triptamines and start releasing them to induce dreaming.
  • Certain structures such as long barrows (which have a layer of organic, then inorganic substances) seem to act as shield against the effects of the GMF on “psychic” abilities.
  • Our sense of direction and navigational abilities are linked to the GMF (studies of pigeons).

As you can see, she pulls together brain chemistry, dream states, psychic abilities, the effects of the electromagnetic energies of the earth, and the purpose or usage of ancient sites. Quite a lecture in an hour!

I found that so many of those topics chimed with me. In addition I have always had a good sense of direction (on most occasions) and can find paths through seemingly impossible terrain, but have never linked it to the GMF activity before. Something for me to think about. I particularly liked the link between GMF activity and “psychic” abilities. I will try to be much more aware of this when attempting druidic work.

I think that the conclusion we could reach is that remote viewing and telepathy would work better from within a long barrow or chamber, whilst a stone circle may be better suited to healing and spirit activity.

Dr Tim Darvill – Stonehenge and Healing:

Dr Darvill (‘Davros’ I kept thinking) was something of a coup for the convention. His TV programme about his excavation work at Stonehenge was getting its first showing on mainstream TV that night. Dr. Darvill therefore delivered his lecture with the smooth assurance and well-rehearsed aplomb of a man who has worked through his theories and re-visited them until he felt they were as convincing as he could muster.

I must say I found it all very fascinating and I felt it turned a listed contender for the purpose of this most famous stone circle, and elevated it to an ‘almost definite’. Healing was, I am convinced now, being done at Stonehenge at some stage in its development, and Tim can practically pin-point that time. But it’s not the whole time. It’s a fragment.

Whether healing was Stonehenge’s original purpose, capability or raison-d’etre I wouldn’t like to say, as I think other competing theories are just as likely seeing as the monument went through several re-workings, and passed through thousands of years of use. Ye gods, we can barely keep one of our modern miracles of architecture for the same purpose more than a year these days!! Now it’s a bank, now it’s a cinema, now it’s a shop, now they’re all flats….Imagine trying to trace an original purpose to any modern building after even 200 years of use. The one constant we can rely on is change. The line may become twisted and broken. The evidence may be cleared out. Purpose may have to be divined as much as reasoned. And we use written records. Most of modern archaeological theory is as much creative cultural anthropology based upon fragments as it is true history backed by permanent record.

That’s not to belittle the work of Darvill and others before him. Anything that adds to the certainty of a theory is welcomed by me, and he presented his arguments assuredly and provided physical and historical evidence to back his claims. Diseased bones that could be traced to a man who came from the Alps is n interesting development. Click here to read about his recent work and theories.

A convincing answer is what Kal and I are after – not an intractable debate. There is more to Stonehenge, though, than simply a healing site, however good it was in its prime. This quote about it comes from a Guardian newspaper article:

The latest finds imply a much more complex story: they include a Roman coin among stone fragments, suggesting the Romans also believed in and sought out the healing magic. The later charcoal deposits suggest to Darvill and Wainwright annual gatherings, perhaps for feasting and ceremony at the winter solstice, continuing as late as the 17th century.

The modern-day druids and pagans who assemble bearing green boughs for the winter and summer solstices may not be so far off the mark after all.

Guardian newspaper, 23rd September

I found it interesting that the healing Blue Stones were from the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire (not the Presley Hills, my American friends, he didn’t own them too – and they probably can’t revive him now). Recently I had been on holiday to Pembrokeshire but had had no idea as to how many sacred sites there would be in that area. I now wish I’d gone for a fortnight instead of three days! A strong place for energies and sites, a rather uninspiring holiday destination though.

Darvill continued to raise the stakes though by saying that Stonehenge might have been a copy or replacement for a more natural circle of stones atop one of the mountains in the Preseli Hills. His candidate is Carn Menyn. From his slide presentation photos it looked a good bet. A complete circle of jagged natural ‘blue’ stones formed a gigantic cathedral that is a natural wonder.

A lunchtime interval came as a welcome opportunity to try a bit ofdowsing in the warm afternoon sunshine, the results of which Kal amusingly recounted in his post. I must say I had to laugh when I guessed that he had played a trick on the rather-too-smug lady by shrinking the boundary of her energetic aura to a few feet. It had a positive side – every time we dowsed for auras now we were able to pick them up easily. Now Kal was demonstrating his skills at manipulating them too, which is something I want to study and practise too after learning about the concept of the nemeton (see previous post).

Hamish Miller – The Southern Serpent, New Zealand and Healing The World:

I had been looking forward to Hamish’s talk, as I have read a couple of his books and had a lot of respect for the work he has put into understanding the nature of the energies he has encountered. Luckily, he didn’t so much re-capping on his near-death experience, or much about the Michel and Mary line that he had dowsed with Paul Broadhurst. Instead he started off talking about the Apollo/Athena line, a line running from Skellig Michael in southern Ireland, and which continues through many sacred sites until it reaches Armageddon in Israel.

Hamish then told us about a phenomenon that he had experienced on both lines – that when he placed a stone on a power centre at the sites along those lines the manifestation pattern would complexify as he followed the alignment ley from one site to the next. Even going back would increase the complexity.

Whenever I have manifested patterns I have invested my energy into the stones before producing the manifestation, but Hamish doesn’t believe that is necessary, in fact stated to me directly that he thought it should not be done using one’s own energy. I will have to test this out – any stone vs. one I pick and invest energy into. I will see what differences emerge. I also plan to pick three sites on an alignment to check for the compelxification of energy patterns as I travel to each in turn. I have such an alignment locally, so it should be easy to check out.

The second half of Hamish’s lecture concerned his visit in search of what he called the “Southern Serpent” in New Zealand. He talked a little about the potential that there had been an indigenous people in NZ well before the Maori people colonised the islands, which he named as the Hawaiki. This group of people may well have come from China, the Pacific Islands, and possibly even Easter Island! I believe there is little at the moment to back this up except ancestral memory, folklore and strong supposition, yet it was an endearing thought, because many of the tales of energy paths, spirit and energy flows and netherworlds all seems to have originated from this Hawaiki people’s culture.

A mother and daughter that Hamish and his wife Ba met whilst there were Maori people who were well-versed in energy work. The daughter had been taught from a small girl to appreciate the energies, venerate them, work with them, and induce energy through the use of a “magical” stone that she kept in her possession, and which had been a gift to her, presumably as some form of rite of passage with the work. During her tuition she had been taught songs to draw out the “song lines” as the Maori’s call the energy. This girl then visibly demonstrated her powers to Hamish’s assembly of friends when she placed her stone onto a sacred site’s centre and sang energy into marvellous patterns of manifested earth energy.

After the talk I questioned Hamish about some of our suppositions: did he agree that energy lines were male, female and neutral? He did, but was not sure what I meant by neutral. I think other people call them ‘null’ lines, alignments, ley lines. They are the guiding force that keeps the male and female wave patterns moving along a particular alignment between sites. But we have also seen the lines have a vital role within the sacred sites themselves in terms of linking the major stone of a stone circle, for example. Hamish stated that the polarities, he found, flipped over between sites so that male became female and vice versa, at various points along a long line.

I found this food for thought and thanked him for his input, and the lecture before Kal and I moved off towards the enticing book store that had been housed int he next building to the lecture theatre. We had one more lecture to attend, but there was some debate. Kal wanted to go and see a workshop about earth acupuncture. So did I, but that workshop was officially full, and so we had to stay where we were.

Michael Bott – Standing With Stones:

Michael was not a dowser. He was, however, amiable and amusing, so despite the fact that he had very little to offer a group of dowsers he managed to make a reasonably entertaining hour pass with some beautiful photos taken from the DVD he has produced with his mate Rupert Soskin – who he said WAS a dowser, but didn’t dowse during their epic tour of hundreds of megalithic sites across the country! O…K…..well.

There’s not much to say about this really. The images were nice, the stories vaguely amusing (in a kind of Open All Hours sort of way) but when I asked whether they had had any mystical experiences then answer was…er…no. They had been too busy filming. O….K…..well. See you then!

However, Kal and I saw Callanish in all its glory and if nothing else we learned that we really needed to go there and do some energy work – preferably close to Winter Solstice, if possible. What a place!

All in all it was a hugely enlightening experience to spend time with some seasoned dowsers, but we did wonder how often they dowsed these days – no-one seemed to be doing it – were we falling foul of some rule of etiquette?

I’d like to thank the staff of BSD who organised the event for making us feel so welcome and remaining upbeat to everyone they encountered. It made the travelling worthwhile. A special thanks to Helen Lamb for making every effort to get us there and for her helpful recommendations all through the day. That’s the kind of dedication and effort that keeps societies going.
