Return to Rainbow Hill: Runcorn, Cheshire.
Runcorn Hill, Cheshire. September 15th 2008
Kal and I just had to get back to Runcorn Hill to see what had happened to our energetic ‘eggshell’ that we have created to try to slow down the energy-sapping and polluting effects of a nearby line of electricity pylons. Just think about pylons for a minute – how is nature supposed to cope with a constant bombardment of energy like that? There are rumours that it also has negative effects on humans. Sig Lonegren is currently investigating the effects of wi-fi energies on his home town of Glastonbury. I’ll be following those developments closely.
Anyway, in an impending drizzle and fading light we scooted back up the hill after work to meet and do some further investigation of the area. We had prepared questions, and were going to try to get through them as best we could in the time we had.
Questions, questions
Our primary motive was to discover whether the energy we had put into the eggshell had been retained, and was still having a positive effect. Here was our hastily drawn-up list:-
- Show me the boundary of an energetic field (in order to find the edge of the eggshell again)
- Has this energetic field been in existence for less than a week (I know now this was a stupid question)?
- Does this energy field extend vertically? (To try to find a third dimension to the shape)
- Is the field made of neutral / male / female energies?
- Has the strength of the field fluctuated since it was created (also a stupid question)?
- Has the flow of unhealthy energies lessened since the creation of the barrier field?
- Are there any other energies within the barrier that we haven’t dowsed yet?
- Does the energy go into the sky / ground?
- Where are the corresponding ascension and descension points?
- What colour does the energy respond to?
- Is the barrier itself having any negative effect on the environment?
Quite an agenda for a quick visit! Note: this is a variation on the list we originally talked about producing. We have a post hidden away with that list, and we’ll incorporate the two soon.
Kal made a good point when we returned to Runcorn Hill. he said “Did you ask permission of the tree to use its energies when we created that energetic barrier?” Er..no I hadn’t! I was embarrassed! How rude! I quickly went to the birch tree at the end of the mound and made respectful contact. “Permission granted!” I exclaimed. “It’s OK. We were right to do it.” Phew! Sounds crazy and puerile, but we’re not here to utilise the energies, rather to work with them with the kind permission and co-operation of Nature.
The Energetic Eggshell
We started dowsing, quickly as the rain clouds were congregating in the West. The energy barrier was still there, still included our energies that we had used to re-enforce it, but had now shrunk to only surround the mound, whereas previously it had included the birch tree. Oh – had we done something wrong?
The stone I had used to make the connection and invest the energies was now not registering any energy, even though the power centre I had sat on still did. Kal’s centre was still very active too – if anything stronger than last time before we had created the barrier.
I connected with the nemeton, the auric edge, of the birch tree. It was next to the edge of the barrier around the mound, almost touching. I followed the edge again to dowse for the energy line I had used that connected with the energy centre I had sat on. That was still flowing and just as strong. Also good.
We checked that the barrier was still slowing the unhealthy energies from the pylons that entered the mound’s nemeton. It was definitely a weaker flow than before we had created the barrier. We were pleased about that. We had had some positive effect then
This checked, we went in search of anything that we hadn’t already dowsed on the mound. We both found spirals on the edge of the mound, and dowsed for their sources to find we ran into each other! They connected! We confirmed each other’s dowsing, and re-confirmed our own. Then we started thinking in three dimensions – was there a neutral energy line connecting the two that formed an arch in the air? Yes, apparently so, though it was much weaker than those at Arbor Low. The centres also registered for earth energy connections.
It’s worth pointing out that such findings don’t correlate with many a dowser’s diagrams of water courses for underwater streams and fissures. We don’t look for blind springs (or aquastats). In our opinion that’s an interesting phenomenon, but incidental compared with uncovering the patterns and properties of earth energies!
The Feeding Force
At Alderley Edge we had witnessed the so-called Father of the Forest beech tree (a massive thick wide tree) that fed its energies through the folly stone circle there, and out into a circular grove of young birch trees surrounding the stone’s clearing. Here at Runcorn Hill Kal found the same thing. His power centre led him off over the hill into the trees nearby. He returned to show me a picture he had taken of a stone face lying in the centre of the birch grove. Spooky! It looked just like the faces on top of Lligwy chamber’s capstone. And like the face-rock at the entrance of Alderley Edge’s “Bat Cave” (see previous posts). We keep seeing these at such places. Most peculiar.
There was another birch tree next to the mound. I hadn’t really considered it on the last visit, so I dowsed around it looking for energy lines coming out of the tree. None. I could dowse the tree’s nemeton, as could Kal. But there was nothing connecting the tree to the site. So that was both trees were not feeding anything into the site. Because they no longer needed to because of what we had done? We should have asked when we were there, but sometimes such obvious things don’t come to you at the time. We had sort of asked enough questions to know we had done some good.
We went back up to the hillock or mound and stood for a moment wondering what to try next.We tried several more things on our list (see above) but I was getting contrary results for myself and contrary results to Kal’s dowsing too. I felt muddle-headed and dull. What was happening? Kal dowsed a question, and then said “The pylon is having an effect on you.”, matter-of-factly. I did the same, and got a strange response that I didn’t recognise – one rod waving slightly, and the other not moving. We enquired as to whether this was happening to Kal too. “Far less so“, was the response as the rods barely crossed, indicating we were partly right, or that it was partly true. I felt dejected. I knew it was true. I was only half there, and could feel the buzz of the nearby pylon’s energy emissions bombarding my own nemeton. I put the rods down, and walked to the birch tree.
I asked permission to link with the tree, which kindly obliged with a gentle swish of its branches in a sudden gust of wind. I put my hand on the tree’s lower branch and connected. This is so hard to explain, but if you want to connect you only have to clear your mind of fuss and nonsense, and to get into the same kind of mind that suits dowsing – a relaxed gently-focused believing disposition that exudes love, harmony and gratitude. I asked the tree to help me to clear my head of the pylon’s negative effects, and an image of an eggshell surrounded me. An eggshell of light fibres, just like what I had seen when Kal and I had done the barrier work days before. I felt calmed and assured.
When I emerged I felt better. Later Kal told me that he also put an energy barrier around us both at the same time. Who knows which worked, but from that moment on we made a new discovery that made us so glad we had made the effort to stay and protect ourselves. I hadn’t believed in the concept of protection before, but I have to admit that there are circumstances where protection has a purpose, and I will try to learn when those conditions should be taken into account.
I remember that the small gentleman I met in Alderley Edge had raved and enquired about how I used protection. My innocent responses amazed him, and I guess that was a helping hand, even though I rejected it at the time, thinking I was right and just with my concept of an approach that is true being all that was required to work with energies. Man-made interferences need to be taken into account at the very least, even if I’m not yet paranoid enough to suspect ‘evil nagicians’ and Satanists of depositing bad-energy at sites because of their rituals. We have found lots of things that cause bad energy – natural and unnatural. I will make a note to take this into account with protection in future, to ensure the consistency of our results.
Rainbow Hill revealed
We were almost at the end of our list, but Kal had one more trick up his wizard’s sleeve
I spoke the next question for him to try, “What colour does the energy respond to?“.
Kal stated, “Red” and walked from the power centre down towards the birch tree at the back. The rods crossed. He re-did it. Yup. Then he said, “Orange” and began again. When he had tried about seven colours, which seemed to me to be the colours of the rainbow, but not int he order I had been taught them at school. I had a go. I asked Kal to tell me which colours I should look for.
I got a different order of colours, but at roughly the same points as Kal. OK. What did that mean? I brushed past the nemeton of the birch tree, and felt a tingle in my hands. “Let me try that again, Kal!” I said. I re-dowsed the colours, this time going back the other direction. The positions of the colour boundaries had swapped around! Some were also different.
“Chakra colours. From the root to the crown.” Kal said. “Which order should they be in, then?” I asked. “I’ll dowse them in that order.” Kal called them out and I dowsed down the mound again. “Red”, “Orange”, “Yellow”, “Green”. “Blue”, “Indigo”, “Violet”. He called them – I dowsed them in that order. At the same marker points as the other efforts. Now we were homing in on something. We both did it without looking down to see our markers, so that we wouldn’t be drawn to cross when we saw them. Kal got the same as me, at the same places! This was Rainbow Hill now! A light drizzle began to fall. Wha….? Nature’s other chromatic and prismatic substance.
Then I dowsed in reverse, back up the mound. Again, at each marker the rods crossed in response to the order of colours. What??? Whether we went up or down the order was still R-O-Y-G-B-I-V. Well, if it’s anything like the behaviour of light it WILL be the same order whichever direction you view it from! That led me to the question, “Show me the boundary of green light energy.” I walked over the green colour boundary. Nothing. No response. So, it wasn’t made of light!
The colour bands we had discovered seemed to form a sphere, we felt. Kal dowsed elsewhere at the mound’s edge and found a colour correlation. The colours were formed in a kind of prismatic sphere, like onion skin layers of coloured arches extending across the floor in bands with definite edges. Kal reminds me that there is speculation that auras are like this and some people claim they can detect the colour shapes, depths and strengths of people and places. This now has to be thrown into the mix of our speculations. It feels like another building block to understanding these energies and their purpose.
Making the subtle visible
Are we moving into the area of beginning to unlock the concept of making visible subtle energies? Is this how Marko Pogacnik managed to visualise his three dimensional models of sacred sites the world over? It is a concept that holds promise, but I approach it cautiously. This way be dragons! I tip-toe hesitantly along the paths trodden my many a deluded New-Ager. Am I indistinct from such a stereotype now? I hope so. I hope the sense of a mind still rationally querying, but intuitively growing, comes through the page. Bedlam has nice beds these days, apparently. Fluffy pillows and clean sheets. {sigh}
On our way back to the car and bike we took a slightly easier path down the main steps we had come in on. We passed the wooden statue in the clearing at the bottom and walked off chatting about the findings. Minutes later I pulled us up short: where were we? We didn’t recognise this bit. We picked a path up to some high ground expecting to see the clean-cut park next to the main road. No such lock. We wandered around for ten minutes more, getting no clearer about which direction to go in. Out came the rods one last time to guide us back for half a mile! What the hell happened there? We arrived back at the wooden status to see the path back to the main park visible only fifty feet away down the other path in the clearing. How had we missed that the first time?
All insignificant stuff. All highly dubious, and the product of deluded minds, of course. Unless you try it yourselves and see that we’re far from looney-tunes!

Forming The Eggshell: Runcorn Hill, Cheshire.
Runcorn Hill, Cheshire. September 14th 2008
To set the scene – it was a lovely crisp yet warm September weekend morning when we drove out to some sites that were fairly local. The weather was getting better all the time, and Kal and I headed for Runcorn Hill. After having to turn back to get a better map (!) we drove purposefully to the Visitor Centre on Runcorn Hill (which was closed of course) where we surveyed the manicured sports courts and lawns.
After admiring the wooden sculpture and distinctly pagan imagery decorating the small park, we headed out towards the hilltop. Neither of us having visited the place before it wasn’t long before we resorted to being led by the dowsing rods in search of the top of the hill. Within minutes we had found it exactly. And right in front of us was a tall buzzing electricity pylon!
We both prickled and shuddered with the foul energy this line of pylons were emitting, close as it was to the end of the small humped rise which forms Runcorn Hill’s highest point. Nearby were a couple of young birch trees, one behind us dividing the path to the hilltop, and the other to the right-hand side. We dowsed for ten minutes of so trying to locate energies and found a bewildering confusion of all sorts of lines, but nothing which made sense to us – nothing like we had seen elsewhere. These lines on the hillock seemed to be short, incomplete and weak.
The only clear good line emanated from a power centre on the hillock, down its left edge, round the end nearest the pylons, and came back through the birch tree at the rear of the site. Then it reconnected with the power centre again. This line also had swirls of male energy which branched off this circuit occasionally.
We decided that we should test for the qualities of the site as a whole, but our questions were met with responses which made us concerned for the welfare of the energies at the site:
- Firstly we asked whether there was an unhealthy link with the pylons – there was.
- Then we asked whether the link was having an effect further afield – the unhealthy energy was travelling into every home in the area we learned after more specific questioning
- We asked whether we could uncouple the site from the bad effects of the energies – no!
- Kal dowsed to see whether he could help in any way – yes, he could help.
- I dowsed to see whether I could prevent the bad energy coming into the site – not myself, but I could assist Kal’s work.
Those questions formed the basis of our next experiment: could we actually modify the dowsable framework of energies surrounding this site, and would that effect improve the stability of the energies?
We prepared ourselves without words for the task ahead – not any of which did we foresee or work out. For my part I went over to the birch tree and looked underneath its sparse canopy of branches. There I saw three stones, all hand-sized, and one caught my eye in particular so I picked it up. It was a small stone, the size of a palm, of the purest red sandstone rock that is typical of the geology of that area. For some reason, looking back now, I picked the “purest” stone. The others were mottled with lichen, other coloured stone, or some other impurity. I don’t know if that helped what was to follow, but now I think that perhaps that was helpful.
Kal sat down to tune into his Reiki powers, facing the birch tree at the end of the ridge. I did the same. The rods informed us which way we needed to face to get the best effects, of what – we didn’t actually know yet! The only parameters we had agreed upon was to form a kind of shield of energy around the site with the aim of blocking the harmful pylon energies, or at least reducing its impact. The idea of the energies dissipating in a relatively short time frame like 50-100 years made us agitated, and evoked our sense of welfare.
Now, we have often questioned whether we should try to affect energy fields at sites. We don’t want to blunder into making the situation worse, but at the same time I strongly adhere to the notion that work entered into with the right intentions, and a good attitude, will lead to positive and successful results with little harm to ourselves. Our tools are not naivety, or wishful thinking, but strongly held hope. Turns out this was true on this occasion. Each occasion is a new question, though, and we will always ask before trying anything. That said, here’s what I did.
I sat down and tried to feel the edges of the birch tree’s nemeton – it’s outer edge of aura, or spirit, if you like – by closing off external noise and reaching out until I felt the tree. I was trying to tune into the tree’s influence, basically. All the time I was sitting, holding my small rock by my root chakra point in cupped and linked hands. I know of no significance to this, only that this position had felt comfortable for meditation on previous occasions, and holding the rock in that way allowed my intent to ‘fall into’ or ‘flow down to’ the stone. But at that moment nothing like that was happening!
As I sat I could hear a local football match in the distance, I could hear the birds twittering, and the traffic far below…..I actively switched them off. But no immediate connection – something was still distracting me, and I couldn’t work out what it was. At that moment a fly landed on my left temple. Hey! C’mon! That’s not helping, I protested to no-one in particular in my mind. The fly buzzed off and left me. Thank you! I settled back down to work again, trying to clear my thoughts. That fly landed again in exactly the same place – harder if that’s possible! Oi! Mother Nature! What the…..then I burst out laughing. She was sending me a sign, and I completely understood what it was, without the need to vocalise or put the thought into words. She was telling me that there was something I should do before I settle into this work. I took the hint.
I put the small stone on the power centre, then got up and felt my way slowly towards the birch tree with the palm of my hands towards the tree, feeling for its nemeton – it’s outer edge. I needed to introduce myself to it, I half-admonished myself, how rude I was being just expecting things to flow without an introduction at the very least! About ten feet from the tree I felt it’s energetic edge – it’s spherical auric extent. It felt like gently pushing a soft pillow, like feeling a slightly warm breath of air pushing back at you, if you cared to notice. I did care, and I was noticing. I introduced myself politely, and asked the tree if it would kindly show me where to connect my energy to on this nemeton’s edge. Slightly further round its front edge I felt a flow, like the gentle breath of a dragon, flowing outwards over the ridge. I felt it with my hands, now that I had a sense of what it felt like, and followed it back to where I had been sitting. So, it was flowing into this spot, it’s just that I hadn’t been tuned into it properly. Now I was, so I sat back down, and picked the small red rock up again.
Immediately I could feel not only the flow of energy coming into me from the birch tree, but something else coming into my back – it was Kal! I really had opened myself up to the flow now! I allowed the energy to flow round for a short while, then I started to will it to enter into the red rock in my hands. When I felt it was full, and even overflowing – white threads of energy lines spilling out all around me, I wondered what to do to hold it all together. I needed something to stabilise this flow. I started a ‘root and branch’ druid meditation which consisted of imagining the energy sinking into the ground as seeking roots. Once this was established, I thought of silver energy branches flowing upwards above and around me like an umbrella. Together, the roots and branches slowly enclosed me in a sphere of shining silvery threads.
I revelled in this for a moment, then started to focus on the energy in the stone. I imagined a manifestation pattern the likes of which I had seen before – four petals extending in the four cardinal directions, growing with each out-breath until they touched an egg-shaped energy shape that I could see around the whole site. On the in-breath I drew more energy from the tree and the surrounding landscape into this process until I had ‘breathed’ or ‘puffed up’ the petals so that they were touching (supporting?) the energy structure that I felt was Kal’s barrier shell. When I was happy that it had stabilised and was solid, I opened my eyes to return back to consciousness and awakening.
I left the stone in the power centre I had been sitting in, and saw Kal rise up too. I felt the urge to slough off a snake’s skin, almost as if taking off or letting fall a pair of workman’s overalls!! It felt like I had taken off a used skin, but I felt it was necessary, and I knew that the work was done with that gesture – the energies were disconnected. There was no conscious thought in this act either – I just felt I had to do it, so I mentally played it out with belief.
As we finished our ‘cleansing’ routines we barely said a word, but exchanged smiles, glances and nods confirming that we thought we had done something. Now the test! We got the rods out and set off on the hunt for new energy lines, shapes and patterns. I found two things: firstly the manifestation of the petals was gone, but instead there was a circle connecting my energy centre to the one Kal had been sitting in! Secondly, as I dowsed down the hillock I found a new boundary. I dowsed for the width of this energy area – it was at least EIGHT FEET WIDE! Blimey! Much bigger than we could have imagined (or was it!).
I watched Kal dowsing the outer edge of the barrier we had created. It really was there. It really was something new. We had really been involved in creating it! But was it going to have any effect? Kal dowsed for the answer – he found that we had extended the life of the energies by up to a year more. Hardly massive on the scale of 50-100 years, but … well, we were both pleased and amazed. It had worked! And we had had no idea what we were doing, other than a good intention to help preserve the site’s energies.
We packed our stuff away, said our humble thanks for the experience, then practically skipped away back down the hill with delight. I was buzzing with ‘aliveness’ for hours afterwards. Whatever we had done, we had done something special, and we were rewarded for our efforts with the thrill of Nature’s touch.
