Imbolc 2017 – P3 – Sing the Song of The Raven

Imbolc 2017 – P3 – Sing the Song of The Raven

In the third and final part of my Imbolc story I am making my way towards a new stone circle in the area of Penmaenmawr in North Wales. The sky is blue, and I’m excited about the possibility of seeing a new circle. In fact, as I’m walking I’m wondering why Kal and I never went to the two other stone circles in this area – we only ever went to The Druid’s Circle and the cairn circles nearby. Nevertheless I’m following the new directive – “Fresh start – New ground” to the letter. I’m on a path which I’ve never trodden before on the opposite side of a valley which I have seen many times but never walked. I walked down the hill from the impressive standing stone, being glad to have gravity aiding...

Imbolc 2017 – P1 – Bright beginnings

Imbolc 2017 – P1 – Bright beginnings

And so the year comes around again. Imbolc is the start of the fire festivals of the old calendar, and for me it is the start of Spring and the end of Winter. It’s when we see the first glimmers of new growth and it marks the start of the lambing season. I decided to go out by myself this time. I much prefer working alone on some of these special days, and especially when I want to be truly open to the possibilities. I sometimes feel that when two or more people are involved the full significance of events and the branch options which are available can be constricted, and so valuable lessons may be lost. Certainly when I look back at the events of this Imbolc, that is most definitely the case. I doubt whether Kal or anyone else I know would have gone with...

Surrey 6 – The Pilgrim’s Way to Gatton Park

Surrey 6 – The Pilgrim’s Way to Gatton Park

There may not be any ancient stone circles left in Surrey, but I was about to visit my second modern circle of the trip. Gatton Park, close to the M25 Junction 8, is the siting for a stone circle constructed in 2000 to mark the millennium, and was commissioned with a theological motivation. I was interested to see whether the mere act of consecrating the space with stone would have created and retained any energy. Time to go find out! I drove through the traffic madness that is the area around the M25. The vehicular levels were just beginning to rise in response to approach the end of the school day. There were still a few hours of daylight left, but this was likely to be my last megalithic visit before the sunset. I had been dancing around and criss-crossing The...

Derbyshire Megalithic Tour 2016

Derbyshire Megalithic Tour 2016

The outings that I particularly look forward to are my megalithic tour days. This started last year with the trip to Anglesey, and this year I selected a date in October and invited people who are in my Spirit In Nature Meetup group to come along. I got ten people along for the day. There was an agenda of some six sites to visit, but as with most things like this we added a couple of extras in, then didn’t get to visit the last one – which is fine because technically it’s in Cheshire! The sun was shining brightly all day long and with joy in our hearts and a tingling sense of anticipation we went to these special places:- Five Wells barrow Arbor Low henge Nine Ladies stone circle Doll Tor stone circle Robin Hood’s Stride Nine Stones Close...

Lammas 2016 – Salute to the Migrating Sun

Lammas 2016 – Salute to the Migrating Sun

Lammas is a bitter sweet time for me now. I remember well last year’s visit to Kilmartin in Scotland. This was the last proper outing that Kal and I had together. This celebration is therefore tinged with a knowing that it not only marks the end of the Summer, but it also is a reminder of my new solitude. Solitude. I have always felt comfortable being on my own, yet I do miss the casual acquaintance of friends and seekers on the way. It’s more profitable to check in occasionally, to have to explain yourself to someone, to hear their news, to argue your points. When you argue with yourself you are more inclined to let yourself win. I decided that I wanted to go out on my own for this festival day. When I asked for guidance on where to go I was given a...
